Looking back at Zev, his brows furrowed like he was in pain while he looked around, clogging my throat with emotion. He cleared his throat as I saw him wipe his eyes. He turned around quickly, opened the door with enough force it hit the wall with a loud bang, making Aeon and Lucien tense up.

“Katarina?” Aeon said, as I left the bed, grabbed a shirt and moved to follow Zev.

“Kit Kat, what are you doing?” Lucien said, getting off the bed too.

“I’m going to Zev,” I said, sliding shoes on, then heading towards the door.

“Kitten, he might not?—”

“He’s fine,” I said, slipping out the door, not waiting for them to keep me from Zev.

“Katarina,” Aeon snapped, as I left the room running down the stairs following my mate.

Mate, sounded so foreign, but Zev was always going to be mine.

I knew he was going outside, his emotions were everywhere, not one emotion fully coming through the bond. The pull of our new bond led me to him right outside of the front door. If I thought Zev was handsome in the night, he was heart-stopping during the day.

His hair was still pulled up in a bun, it was messy from sleep, but the tanned skin over his muscles was mouthwatering. Zev’s body was cut in all the right places. His head was turned up to the sky like he was soaking in the sun. He was a big guy and seeing him with the glow of the sunrise made him look larger than life.

He must have felt my presence when he looked right at me with a lone tear coming down his face, disappearing into his beard. Zev’s yellow eyes looked even more vibrant in the sun. The color drew me in like a magnet until I walked right in front of him. He picked me up quickly, guiding my legs around his naked torso, burrowing his face in the crook of the neck.

“Thank you. I knew Lucien and Aeon had seen the sun and as much as I wanted to pretend I wasn’t jealous, I was very wrong.” His words made my skin pepper with goosebumps. “I didn’t know how much I missed the sun, or I let myself believe I didn’t need it, but you Katarina are the sun my dark soul needed. You are the light I will keep chasing to keep the dark nights away.”

It was close, as close to a declaration of love I thought I would ever get from Zev.

“You can’t have light without dark and I’ll light the way for you as long as you let me,” I said, trying to pull away, wonderingif he would kiss me. He placed a gentle kiss on my neck that I don’t think you could call a kiss.

“Now, Katarina, I think it's time for you to run.” His deep voice sent chills down my spine.

He set me down on my feet, his eyes flashing an even brighter yellow.

“I think he said run, Kit Kat.” Lucien's voice was deep, like his wolf was close to the surface, making my stomach swoop in anticipation with a little hesitation. I wondered where the change had come from.

“Run, Lioness.” Aeon's alien voice made me squeeze my thighs together. I took a few steps back watching Aeon and Lucien flank Zev.

They were a unit of muscle that I wanted to use me, make me come and show me all the ways they craved me. Their differences during the day were startling. Lucien looked more blonde in the sunlight, Aeon’s eyes were hypnotizing and Zev looked like he could eat me.

I guess that hadn’t changed much since I first got here. They all looked at me with the same hunger, but the familiarity was there. It was no longer clouded with unfamiliarity, but they all looked at me with a possessiveness that I had grown to love. If we didn’t have to break this stupid curse, then I would have gladly enjoyed a few days in our bed, uninterrupted.

“He said run!” Zev snapped but the mischief in his eyes told me he was being playful.

“I think we all know, Sir Fluffington, that you guys are too old to catch me,” I taunted, taking a few steps back.

“Old man or not, you know I’ll always catch you, Katarina.” Zev’s stare was full of promise and heat.

“Catch me if you can, you old geezers!!!!”

I laughed as I heard a growl, and laughed even more as they followed me into the trees. The curse still loomed over us, butright now, seeing all of them in the sunlight gave me the push I needed to end this curse, breaking everything I had in me. I didn’t know how long Zev would stay in his human form, but I was tired of living my days with fear. If these were my last few weeks alive, I wanted to live them to the fullest with laughter, love and lots of intoxicating sex.

Peace. Complete happiness that I couldn’t even put into words flowed through me when Zev completed the bond. The completed pack bond felt even better than seeing the sunlight after two hundred years. That feeling was still with me the following week when I woke up in a tangle of limbs with my pack mates.

It felt early, earlier than I had ever woken up before. A small amount of disappointment hit my chest when I realized the curse wasn’t broken. I had an inkling that maybe the spell would break once all of us were mated, but it seemed that wasn’t the case. It appeared that Vivienne had made sure that this wouldn’t be easy on us. My hate for her had subsided. With all the new information we had been given, I felt like the more we found out, the more questions we had.

As much as I questioned what had happened, a part of me thought, was it even worth it to find the answers? She had cursed us, and even if she was manipulated, did it matter? We were cursed and now—hopefully—we would break this spell and be free to live our lives together.
