I’d always hated uncouth guys. The type that all they could think of was having a woman on all fours and bending them to their will.

Guys just like Vlad.

Ugh.I couldn’t stand him. I didn’t like him one bit. At least that was what I told myself and forced myself to believe. It worked for a few days after the night at the casino, but my resolve wasn’t strong enough because my hate for him came crashing down.

My mind still tried to hold onto that notion that I hated him, it was my body that was the problem though. My heart was pounding fast, my lungs churning and there was an insatiable ache between my legs.

I wanted him. I needed to feel what I felt that night at the casino, with him buried deep inside of me, his breath hoarse and his thrusts deep.

Fuck, I need to get a hold of myself.

I needed to push him away before it got any worse than it already was. I kept a stern expression, not wanting to risk him seeing through the façade I was putting up. “No, I want you to leave me alone.”

“Why should I?” A cocky smile quirked his lips. “No one tells me what to do.”

Why was he so handsome when he smiled? I didn’t like the way heat pricked down my spine whenever I was around him, or the way I had to remind myself all the reasons I needed to avoid him. If there was any truth to what Christy told me, thenhe was dangerous.Attractive too.But that was not the point, the point was he was no good for me.

Getting closer to him would be like jumping into a pit of fire. “Looks like someone does now. Stop pestering me, Vlad. Fix yourself in a corner and find something worthy of your time.”

He smiled, a glint of amusement in his eyes. I had a feeling it amused him when I turned him down. “I’ve found something that excites me,moya zvezda.You.”

“Why do you keep calling memoya zvezda?I told you many times my name is Mariana.”

“I’ll call you whatever I want.”

I rolled my eyes. There was no winning with this man. “Fine. Call me whatever you want as long as you stay out of my face. Oh, and how did I get home the other night?”

Christy refused to tell me. She said it was better I found out from the horse’s mouth myself. I could only hope the horse would give me an answer.

“Do you really want to hear it?”

“I wouldn’t be asking if I didn’t.”

He inched closer, sealing the gap between us. I tensed, lungs churning and breath clipping. The heat rolling off him has seeped through every pore in my skin, simmering deep in my stomach and working a pulse between my legs.

I was fighting hard not to wrap my arms around his neck and lean into him, melting away in his embrace. This amount of obsession for a man I barely knew was dangerous.

He angled over me. “I took you home, put you in bed and watched you sleep.”

I put a hand over my mouth. “Did you … undress me?”

“I gave you a clean bath.”

“Pervert.”

“Considering you seduced me until you got your way with me. I think you’re the pervert.” His cloudless blue eyes skimmed me. “You’re beautiful tonight, lyubov.”

My breath caught in my throat, my resolve to not show how affected by him crumbling down in my face. I’m stunned, unaware of how to respond.

I bit back a smile, sinking my teeth into my lips to keep myself from blushing. But it was all useless, I felt my cheeks heat up until it was a bright red. “I don’t take compliments from men who have no idea how to be gentlemen. Who sleeps with a woman, drives her home, and abandons her while she’s asleep? Only a man like you would do that.”

He placed his empty glass on a moving tray, running a hand over his dark hair. “Would you have preferred it if you woke up with me beside you?” His face was a blank mask now, leaving me no clue if he was serious or still joking around.

I chewed the inside of my jaw. I couldn’t admit that I’d needed his warmth when I woke up that morning. “Well…”

“Look who we have here,” Sophia’s voice broke in. I looked over as she strode toward us with a big smile on her face.

Vlad moved away, sighing as if he found Sophia’s presence bothersome.
