Pouring myself another glass, I finished it in one gulp and slammed the empty glass on my desk. “Did you suddenly forget I coulddrugorpoisonyou?” I asked. I’m intrigued by her behavior.

She was one interesting woman. Peculiar too.

“Who would play poker without a drink or two?” She plopped her hands on the table, hiding her cards from my view. “I lied, just so you won’t try to, even though I can tell you were tempted to.”

Man, I love her guts.

“I don’t need to drug you to have you where I am,Moya zvezda.” I circled the rim of the glass with my finger. “I’m not an easy man to resist.”

She flushed, lowering her gaze to the cards she’s holding. “I bet you always have your way with women, but I’m not an easy catch.”

“So, you’re playing hard to get?”

Dragging her gaze back up to me, she huffed. “I’m not playing hard to get, I am hard to get. There’s a difference. Are we playing this game or not?”

Playing hard to get it is.

She’d failed if she was trying to push me away. The worst mistake a prey could ever make was running away from a predator, trying to act tough. It only heightened the instinct to chase. An easy prey was a boring one, but one that put up a fight was the real deal.

The first round commenced with a subtle raise from my end, testing the waters. Her gaze flickered to the chips in the center of the table before she matched the bet with a confident nod.

The subsequent rounds unfolded in a dance of bluffs, bets, and calculated risks. The ambiance in the room shifted as the game progressed.

Mariana poured herself more and more drinks until she was visibly drunk. She played better when she was drunk.

With each card dealt, the stakes rose, but neither of us faltered. We were both very determined to beat each other, and Mariana had the odds in her favor.

Only my older brother, Max, had ever beaten me before. This was a close second, and I was enjoying every bit of it.

The tension thickened, my heart rate tripling and excitement coursing my veins. Five rounds, and she was taking the lead.

Mariana leaned back, her eyes never leaving mine, a smirk playing at the corner of her lips.

I studied her carefully, attempting to decipher if her confidence was genuine or merely a facade. The final card was laid on the table, and with a calculated move, I pushed a significant stack of chips forward, raising the bet.

She didn't flinch. Instead, she matched the bet, her gaze unwavering.

The tension escalated as the cards were unveiled. I laid down my cards—all hearts—and her poker face cracked slightly, a flicker of surprise crossing her features before she composed herself. “Ready?”

I rubbed my temple. “What do you have?”

She laid down hers, a flush, with a subtle grin. Her shoulders relaxed, and a chuckle escaped her lips as she revealed her hand—a royal flush, all A’s. “I can see the regret and defeat on your face already,” she spat.

“No way you didn’t cheat.”

“You think I did?” she laughed, staggering up to her feet and rustling her dress. “Did any cards fall out yet?”

“Who knows where you hid them?”

“Do you think they’re in my panties or my bra?” She climbed my desk, crawling to me on all fours. “Would you like to see for yourself?”

My cock twitched, my body electrifying and my thoughts turning wicked. She wouldn’t be tempting me this way if she knew what the position she was in was doing to me.”

Waving two fingers, I gestured for my guards to leave and waited until they closed the door behind them. “Would you do me a favor and get down from my table?”

She grabbed my jacket, hauling me closer and bringing her face to mine. “Or what? You’ll challenge me to another game?”

“Get down or you’ll regret it.”
