“Wrong?! No, not wrong, not…” He smiles. Eyes glistening. “You know I love you girls more than anything, right?”

I smile, feeling a swell of emotions. Kent Solace is super dad. When Mom left, who stepped up to do the work of two parents instead of just one? He did. Who is the most loving and supportive father a girl could ask for? He is. Who deserveshappiness more than everyone after putting the happiness of his daughters ahead of his at every turn? He does.

“You can’t make me cry before I even get down the aisle, Daddy.”

“I’m sorry, I’m…” He pinches the bridge of his nose. “I don’t want you to ever feel like I’m choosing someone else over you.”

“By being with Victoria? Daddy, we all love Vic.”

“I know, but –”

“You’ve been on your own for so long…all any of us have wanted is for you to find love like we all have.” I glance at Owen who is now sleeping on my shoulder. Loving Orlie was one gift, but loving my child with him has been that times one million.

Dad runs his hand through Owen’s silky hair and then looks at me. “Kira. Victoria and I are going to have a baby.”

My heart leaps into my throat. “You mean eventually or like…”

He shakes his head. “Like it’s already happening.”

I’m speechless. Words cannot begin to encapsulate the overwhelming happiness I feel.

“We were trying, I’m not as careless as you girls. Just since I’m…getting old and I don’t want to be totally senile by the time they graduate high school but –”

“Oh, Daddy…” Tears start to run down my face.

He chews his lower lip. “Are you upset? I know it’s weird thinking about your old dad having –‘”

“No, Daddy, no…” I throw my arm around him and squeeze him tight.

No wonder he’s been acting weird the past couple of weeks. “I’m so happy for you.”

Nothing could be better than my dad finding love and getting a second go at the life he thought he had the first time. I know he doesn’t regret his relationship with our mother for a singlesecond. After all, he has five girls who are all kicking ass and taking names.

But he deserves a happily ever after too.

“Psst.”

I glare at the wedding planner who is once again peeping through the curtain.

“The string quartet is getting restless. You’re on.”

I start to protest, but my father takes a step forward and holds out his arm. “Come on, Kira. Time to get married.”

Tentatively, I take a step forward, sliding my arm through my father’s, hoisting Owen higher on my hip. “I think I just got nervous.”

“Don’t be,” Dad says with a smile.

Through the curtain, we hear the beginnings of the wedding march. The wedding planner pulls the curtain aside, revealing the backyard, the aisle created from rose petals. And at the end of the aisle is Orlie.

He looks incredible. Usually, he’s much more at home in a three-piece suit, but the dressed-down khaki sport coat suits him.

I immediately see the breath freeze in his chest. Trevor reaches out and touches Orlie’s shoulder. We chose Trevor as our officiant, considering how much of a part he played in bringing us together.

Now, here we are. Face to face, our fathers at our sides. And we’re about to be married.

The butterflies in my belly start batting their wings.

“Let’s do this, huh?” Dad says.
