“What’s all that for?”

“I have some work to do and didn’t want to wake you when I come to bed later. We have an arrangement. I have no problem keeping up what we laid out as boundaries. If we want to do something else, we can go to the club when all this is over,” Nick replies, creating a makeshift bed on the floor.

“How long is that going to be?”

He turns. “A day, a few days, a week, hopefully not another month.”

“Nick?”

“Yeah?”

My mouth is dry. “What if I don’t want to wait?”

Chapter Twenty-One

Nick

Allie’s voiceis soft and so seductive that it causes my dick to harden at the very sound of it. Her hazy, green eyes fill with unspoken desire, waiting expectantly. An offer she’s given because she, like me, is helpless against the palpable magnetism that floods my pulse with sexual energy whenever she’s nearby.

My jaw tightens with resolve, because sex isn’t all I want from Allie O’Conner. “I’ll take you to the club when we’re out of danger and things get back to normal.” I spin on a square boot heel and walk into the kitchen for a glass of water, wishing I wasn’t on duty and could down an ice-cold beer or, better yet, something stronger—anything to get her and those bedroom eyes out of my mind.

I find Chase’s office on the other side of the penthouse, sign on to the computer, and hit Trent’s number. “Any update from the perimeter?”

“Everything’s good here, in the stairwell, and outside. We have the place surrounded, Nick. The entire crew has the pictures of the men who were sent over, and they’re not going to let their eyes off the ball. No one’s getting through us.”

“I don’t have to tell you this one is personal.”

Trent laughs. “No, my friend, that’s been pretty apparent since you and Allie put eyes on each other last month. We’re not going to let anything happen to either her or Lexie.”

“Good. Scottie’s ringing through on the other line. Talk to you later.” I accept the incoming, and Scottie’s brogue comes through quick and raspy. “The bloody arseholes just landed a while ago. We have a team tailing them, and it looks like they’re heading straight in the direction of the girls’ apartment and nowhere near the sky rise. We have men waiting.”

“Sounds good. I want them wrapped up tight.”

“Roger that. I just got off the phone with Matt. He’s en route and bringing Marenah with him. She couldn’t stand the thought of not being boots on the ground on this one, especially with all the ladies who might need her help. Brian sent them in his jet, and Carlos Larussio has a car picking them up at the airport shortly. Matt even switched his schedule so he could come with her. That guy has it bad.”

“I can understand that.” And for the first time, I know exactly why all the men with partners act as possessive and crazy as they do when their women are in trouble, or someone even looks at them wrong. I feel the exact protective way about Allie, and she’s not even mine. My lips twist. Yet. She’s not mine yet.

“Alright, give me a call when you learn something new. In the meantime, I’m going to check in with Tommy and see if they were able to get any information from the man we grabbed at the park.”

I hang up, just about to connect with Tommy when a call comes in from the team watching the ladies’ apartment. “We have activity on the perimeter. We can’t get facial recognition yet, but they’re heading up the stairs. As soon as they reach the top, they’ll trip the cameras, and we’ll have all three of the bastards on feed,” Jay lets me know.

“Good. Don’t let them out of your sight, and try to bring them in alive. We need more information.”

“Roger that, Nick. They’re about ready to trip the camera. Give it a second. Ready on one, two and three. Smile, fuckers! We got a lock, and a good set of pictures. I’m sending it through to the mainframe, and they’re going in. No two ways about it. Same guys who flew in, which means their ass is ours. Call you in a few.”

I ring Tommy. “This is Nick. We have the three men. They landed and went straight to the girls’ apartment. Any update?”

“Your man’s giving up the bank right now. Carlos is going to hit the roof when he finds out they're snatching women in his city. It’s way worse than the shit you told me about. He and another guy came in to grab the girls early. The plan was to meet the men coming into the country after they arrived and head downstate to get another truckload of women. He hasn’t given up his partner’s names, or who they’re working for, but I did get a first name and an address to the warehouse they’re using as a holding place for a group of women. The bad news is the truck’s already on the way there to pick them up. We’re trying to get some more details. It just takes time, but there’s a lot of women at risk, Nick.”

My chest tightens because I can feel the magnitude of the situation in his voice, and he doesn’t know the worst. “Once they pick the ladies up, they’ll ship them out together?”

“Bingo, my friend.”

I inhale deeply, letting the anger fuel and give me strength. God help these men if we find what I envision. “They don’t know where our ladies are, or they wouldn’t have gone to the apartment. We’ll keep Lexie and Allie under security in the penthouse and go for the rest of the women.”

“This is Larussio territory, and those pricks are running a truck full of women right under our nose. I wanna know who the fuck is pulling the goddamn strings. We need the man in charge. You get the women, and the Larussios send a fucking message. Capiche?”

“We won’t be in your way, Tommy. I just want the girls safe, and Carlos Larussio would say the same thing.”
