If I had any doubts before, about how the other guys could already be sure she was ours, they were gone. We were all feeling the same thing for our omega. And as clear as that knowledge was, it was also clear that Tracy wasn’t there yet. She wasn’t ready to accept what we all were to each other.

Until today, I hadn’t even known she was an omega. Whatever she’d been through, it cut deep.

I was glad she let us comfort her. She leaned intomy tight grip, not away, and tipped her head toward Michael as he anxiously nuzzled her.

Maybe it washercomfortingus.

She let out a long sigh against Griff’s hand.

“What happened was that my kidnapper was killed, and I made it out alive. I went back to my family and tried to pick up my life where I left off. But I couldn’t. It’s why I work in the park. This is where I feel safe.”

Understanding dawned. She’d come to the park to hide. She hid being an omega.

“You were taken because you’re an omega.” I didn’t phrase it as a question.

Her body stiffened a little, and she nodded, closing her eyes.

“You got it. Out here, no one cares what I am. In the city, it was all they saw. I felt like I had a target on my back.” She opened her eyes and looked toward the fire, smiling through a short, humorless laugh. “Now I work around cabins that remind me of that horrible week. But it’s a weird kind of therapy, I think.”

“Your name isn’t really Tracy Butler.” It was a guess, but I was pretty sure I knew the answer.

“No, it isn’t.”

We waited, but she didn’t elaborate.

Something tugged at my memory. News stories about a double kidnapping, two omegas taken. They’d been rescued. I wondered if one of them hadbeen her. But she obviously didn’t want to offer any more details than she already had.

Griff filled the silence. “You’re safe here with us. I promise.”

“I know. I feel safer with the three of you than I have in years.”

A lone tear fell down her cheek, and Griff brushed it away. The sounds in the room changed. Growls became purrs.

Our pack bond was tight. Everyone’s emotions had been up and down the past few hours. But now we were all feeling deeply satisfied. Griff and Michael loved hearing her words. So did I.

We would always protect her. That was how it should be.

The purring changed the air in the room. I could sense when she felt the shift. Very slowly, carefully, she started to pull away. Her mask came down. Our purrs quieted.

“Time to get started on food, I think.” She turned to face Michael. “Want some help?”

He smiled and stood, pulling her up to her feet. “Please.”

I couldn’t find it in me to be jealous, not anymore. If Michael put her at ease, he could get her to open up, and that would be good for the pack. We were a team. I laughed softly.

I’d done my part by falling into an icy creek.

Griff sat back on his heels and watched Tracywalk away with Michael. Then he looked at me and nodded toward the bedroom. Once we were inside, he quietly closed the door.

“She didn’t tell you she was an omega.”

I shook my head. “No. To be fair, I never told her I was in a pack. We work together; she’s my contact. I did think it was strange that I couldn’t find her online.”

He raised an eyebrow. “You tried?”

“There was something about her, even over the phone. I’m definitely not apologizing for it now.”

“No.” Griff wasn’t the kind of guy to overanalyze. “I wonder who she is.”
