“Daniel’s on his way,”Marcus whispered over the mating link.

His words danced on my skin, soothing me and my wolf. Irwin held me close as my body contorted and twisted again. I growled against his chest, so I didn’t accidentally bite him because everything hurt so much.

“You’re doing so well,” Irwin whispered to me. “You’ve got this, mate. Baby Lux is coming and before you know it, this part will seem like another lifetime. Trust me.”

And I did, because he’d delivered two pups and because he was my mate. Irwin never lied to me about anything before. So, I gave into the pain and the ebb and flow of labor giving up all my energy to the point of exhaustion to usher Baby Lux into the world. He came out silent and for a moment I feared I’d done everything wrong. Irwin’s heart sped up, but Marcus set to work clearing our wolf pup’s mouth and nose. His first whine made my heart leap up into my throat and I howled, because I couldn’t hold it back. Those were the scariest thirty seconds I ever lived through. I shook my head. That probably wasn’t the truth.

After hearing the baby whine, my wolf receded into his inner sanctum to rest. I managed to push myself almost upright with Irwin’s help and watch as Marcus cleaned up Baby Lux. His big hands were so gentle as they dragged the warm cloth over our baby. He was a perfect little grey wolf.

I balled. I wasn’t all that emotional during my pregnancy, but seeing Baby Lux in the flesh opened the floodgates of my emotions. I sobbed and Irwin held me close. Our baby shifted from wolf pup to human baby as soon as Marcus slid the little guy into my arms. I swallowed down my sobs to smile at him. He had my chin and Marcus’s eyes.

“He’s perfect,” I managed to say, despite the crack in my voice.

Marcus kissed the top of my head as he tossed the askew blankets to the side. Somewhere in all my contorting the den had collapsed on top of us all. I laughed and apologized for turning the bed into a cave, but my mates waved off the apology.

“Next time I’ll carve you a cave straight through one of these mountains, if that’s what you need to feel safe,” Marcus whispered in my ear.

“I don’t need all that. I just need you guys,” I whispered, still smiling at my baby.
