Not feeling as shocked over what happened, I tell him, “I’m much better, but nothing can make me feel bad enough not to appreciate how great you look. Damn, are you sure you’re all mine?” I flirt, batting my eyes playfully.

He bites down on his bottom lip. “So you think I look great?” He strikes a side profile pose that accents the muscles popping out of his shirt. “How about like this?”

“Mm, positively yummy. You look great. Wonder where you get your style from?” I do a quick twirl. “Could I possibly have something to do with how good you look?”

“No doubt, you make me look good by having you on my side. But when I came out of the shower and saw the clothes you picked out for me lying on the chair earlier, I knew I had no choice but to wear matching outfits today,” he jokes as he loops a black belt around his waist.

I giggle. “You’re funny. You know you love dressing like me.”

“I have no problem dressing like my baby.” His voice sounds flat, so he’s being sarcastic.

I walk over and peck his lips. “That’s because you know I wouldn't choose anything that doesn't make you look good. And you do look very, very good. So good that I now want to take all those clothes off you.” I undress him with my eyes. If we had thirty extra minutes before the party started, it would definitely be used to our satisfaction.

His intense browns narrow on mine. He places a hand over his belt buckle. “All you have to do is say the word, and all these matching clothes are off.”

I wave my hand, signaling for him to take his hand off his belt. “No, no. We have to go.”

“Well, keep talking like that, and we’re both going to get undressed, and mama is going to have to understand that we’ll be late.”

“We can’t be late. She’s expecting us.” I press his chest, pushing him backward. Then, I walk past him to my vanity and finish applying my makeup.

"We can do whatever we want," he pouts, then sits on the bed and watches me as I apply fresh lipstick. "And right now, I want to be that tube of lipstick."

I laugh playfully and pop my lips. "Obviously, we can't be whatever we want because you'll never be a tube of lipstick."

"Wanna make a bet?" Wayne challenges with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

I know his competitive nature all too well. If I give him a chance, he will make sure to prove he can paint my lips as well as a tube of lipstick. Chuckling, I object, "No, I want to be on time for your mother's party. If we get started, we won't make it at all. Let's go before we're late."

Wayne catches my hand as I walk past him and pulls me into his lap, trying to tempt me with his charm. "I can be quick."

"When did that start because the Wayne I know doesn't have that word in his vocabulary?" I tease, my heart fluttering as he kisses my neck.

His voice turns raspy as he playfully persists, "I can start tonight."

I giggle, trying to resist his advances. "Not going to happen," I firmly reply, enjoying our playful banter. Despite the temptation, I know we need to leave for the party. But being in his arms like this makes it hard to resist the allure of staying just a little longer.

He sounds breathy as he breathes his words into my ear. “Today’s been hectic, and I don’t want to lose sight of what’s important. And that’s making sure my woman feels protected and safe. If that means we stay home and bond some more until you feel comfortable going back out, that’s what we’ll do.”

Heat rises to my cheeks. “Wayne, we’re well bonded.”

"A couple can never have enough bonding," he says softly, his warm gaze locked with mine.

I nod, understanding his intention, but he can’t protect me from facing the outside world. I'll have to face the media eventually and learn to navigate this aspect of our life together.

His forehead gently touches mine, and I feel a surge of comfort from his closeness. His touch grounds me, making me feel safe amidst the chaos outside. He whispers reassuringly, "I'm not trying to stop you from dealing with anything. I'm trying to get you to deal with me."

“You’re trying to do the horizontal dance,” I giggle. “But I don’t want your family to think I’m avoiding them. Your mother put this party together for Jasmine, and she’s looking forward to us coming. Your family is some of the best people to be around in times like this because I know they truly love me.”

“My family is kind of great,” Wayne brags. “But I’m not trying to keep you from them. I’m trying to keep you under me. There’s a difference.”

“But we promised your mom,” I whine.

He snakes his arms around my waist and hugs me closer before releasing me. “Fine. We’ll go, but we’ll only stay long enough to show our faces.”

“We have to at least show our faces,” I agree.

Wayne appears pensive before saying, “I’ll have to deal with Eddie sometime. He’s probably losing it after this morning too. I’m sure he has something to say about it.”
