“Well, if we make it through this, we’ll have plenty of years to make it up to her,” I assured him, slapping him on the shoulder.

I heard him grumble as he came into the room where Kaci was sleeping like an angel, snoring lightly on the pillow, her chestnut hair all around her. It was hard to imagine the sort of fucking we’d have to give her in a few hours. Right now, she seemed too innocent and young for it.

My wolf didn’t care. I kicked off my shoes and collapsed next to her while Ry took the other side. This was how it was going to be—years of sharing this beautiful creature in between us.

I could feel my wolf, and for the first time in a long time, it was actually excited.

CHAPTER 27

Kaci

The next morning, I blearily awoke to find myself nestled in a cocoon of man, Caelum at my front and Ry against my back. Opening my eyes, I just lay there, careful not to move or wake them, because I simply wanted to enjoy the feeling of their arms around me. I was completely surrounded by their much larger frames.

For the briefest of moments, I let myself feel safe, and my mind lingered in that security for as long as it could, because I definitely needed it after a night like last night.

I studied the man in front of me because I’d never gotten the chance to do so up close before today.

Since the first time since I had met him, Caelum looked to be at peace. His brow wasn’t furrowed, and his mouth wasn’t turned down in a permanent frown. If anything, it made him appear a bit soft and sweet, which was a nice change of pace from his typical stern, no-nonsense demeanor.

I could see the sun streaming through the window. I wasn’t certain what time it was, but it certainly wasn’t early. We’d gone to bed within a few hours of sunrise, and I’d slept like the dead, enough to where I felt like I’d rested through the night even though I knew I hadn’t.

A happy sigh escaped my lips, and Caelum stirred a little, just enough to disrupt the serene expression on his face. His eyes opened, and his piercing blue gaze found mine in an instant. I lost myself in the swirling waves of those beautiful irises for a second as he stared back at me.

“I’m so glad you’re safe, princess,” he murmured, and a subtle warmth washed over me as he unraveled one of his arms just enough to brush the hair away from my face and then graze his thumb across my cheek. There was a soft sincerity to his tone that made my heart flutter with feeling. His touch was light, but possessive in a way that he hadn’t revealed to me before.

Yesterday, he hadn’t wanted a mate. Today seemed like a totally different story.

Ry shifted behind me, pressing himself against me firmly. I could feel his monster of a boner nestled between my cheeks. I still didn’t know how that had fit inside me a few days before. It was massive. It should have ripped me in half, but it hadn’t, and thinking about it made a rush of heat paint my face.

Ry kissed the back of my shoulder, and I shivered, a fiery tendril of sensation flittering across my skin from his tender touch.

They were being gentle.

Likereallyfucking gentle.

So gentle that they had to have something up their sleeves that was decidedlynotthat.

“What’s up, guys?” I questioned, while trying to wriggle out of the hot, oversized man-sandwich that I was currently a part of, willingly or unwillingly—I wasn’t sure at this point.

“Can’t we just enjoy waking up with our mate in our arms, sweet cheeks?” Ry answered, and that was real fucking sus. I stiffened, narrowing my eyes in Caelum’s direction, while he looked over my shoulder at Ry instead.

They were planning something. I could feel it deep in my bones.

Caelum took my injured hand in his grasp, and I flinched, expecting a flash of pain, but I felt nothing. Slowly, he unwrapped my palm like he was revealing a long-awaited present, and then with a sharp gasp, he froze.

“It’s already healed,” he blurted out, his disbelief coating every syllable. I shifted a little in order to reveal my palm, and he was right. There was nothing more than a pink line where the bone knife had sliced through my flesh. It was far more healed than it should have been.

“Well, that’s new,” I said, not really intending to speak aloud but doing it anyway.

“I’d heard rumors that the mate bond could accelerate healing abilities, but seeing it up close like this in the flesh is fascinating,” Caelum continued, his tone reflective.

“Does it hurt, princess?” Ry asked. His words conveyed his deep concern, and I couldn’t help but soften at the sound of them.

“No. It doesn’t hurt at all,” I claimed with delight, curling my hand into my chest happily. “Are you guys going to let me up toget rid of my probably rancid morning breath, or are you going to keep me in bed all day?”

Caelum peered purposefully behind me, and I got another strange feeling that they were up to something. Deciding to take matters into my own hands, I squirmed out of their grasp like a worm and bounded off into the attached bathroom to freshen up. I closed the door behind me only to see the two of them exchange a look right before it shut.

Throughout the last week, I’d been making myself at home here, and at this point the bathroom already looked like the lab of a mad scientist. I brushed my teeth and spent several extra minutes washing my face, applying toner to even out my skin tone and even relaxed with one of those fancy Korean face masks to ensure my skin was baby soft. I let about a half hour pass. Neither man came to fetch me from the bathroom, which I took as a good sign, at least until I opened the door again.
