There was a sudden rush of panic, but then I saw the rest of the rogues run quickly away, my own pack hot on their heels, ready to give them the same dose I gave Juana. They were triumphant, happy about the kill.

“Shh,” Caelum said, transforming next to me and patting my fur as I growled. My wolf didn’t want to let my new toy go… My new toy being the witch’s body. “It’s okay. Just relax. Relax and start thinking human thoughts now, princess.”

I felt pretty fucking far away from human thoughts. My wolf was totally in the driver’s seat, but the human part of me was still in there, thinking how Caelum looked like chewed up garbage.

The man who was rarely out of place? He was out of place. His shirt was off, his skin was almost ripped completely off at the shoulder, and he was bleeding everywhere. He wasn’t even wearing socks anymore, let alone the cute little Jessica Rabbit ones he’d been wearing today.

Ry loped up and then also transformed, smoothly, like he was kicking off his pants. He slapped his hands together, a sort of victory gesture because he looked even worse somehow. He had a deep gash right under his rib cage, his face was black and blue, his ear was half chewed off, and I could tell it was going to take even a Lycan like him a few days to heal up.

“Shh. Let go of the body,” Caelum was telling me soothingly. “Come on, girl.”

My wolf let out a growl, thinking that that suggestion was just plain rude.

“She’s not driving the boat,” Ry warned, putting out his hands to my wolf, but talking to Caelum.

“Of course she’s not driving!” Caelum hissed back. “She’s eating a witch!”

I was mentally assuaged that this was not their typical Tuesday. I feel like I was almost entirely sitting in the backseat while my car just sped down the highway. Apparently, they did not have that problem; that problem was just mine alone.

“Okay, Kaci—I know you’re in there. It’s okay, you got this, you’re just going to have to make your wolf heel,” Caelum was saying, like getting back to my former self was going to be as easy as pushing a button despite the fact that he was using tones only used by the bomb squad to victims with an explosive device strapped to their chest.

My wolf growled, because my wolf didn’t like them giving out any advice that would make her heel.

Not that I knew what they were talking about anyway; I had never owned a dog in my life. Once I’d owned a gerbil for a few years, but I really just got bit a lot. That left me without a whole lot of confidence in making anything heel.

“I don’t see her in there,” Ry informed, looking into the wolf’s eyes and moving way closer to my wolf than I thought was wise.

“She’s in there, Ry,” Caelum snapped as if Ry was being unhelpful on purpose. “This is a fucking adult female alpha, and Kaci hasn’t been transforming her whole life. Let alone making a kill. Give her a fucking second.”

A second? I didn’t need a second. It was hard to think anything except ‘If they try to take my well-earned food, I’m going to make sure they’re next!’ which wasn’t a normal thought.

“Kaci, you got to get your wolf to move away from the kill. We can’t approach her when she’s in this stance,” Ry instructed.

I found his words annoying. When watching action movies, I rarely expected the captive to just go ahead and save themselves when they were in the middle of being cuffed to a chair.

“I need to try to take it away from her,” Caelum told Ry, his eyes still on my wolf.

“Good luck, buddy. It was nice fucking knowing you,” Ry replied flatly.

“You’re going to attack her from behind. I’ll get the kill away,” Caelum informed after a brief, weary look at Ry’s direction.

Ry grunted. “Yeah, sounds like an awesome plan. Can’t wait to hurt her and get blamed for it. I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna want to fuck later and this will make her pouty as hell.”

Caelum winced as if unable to even process Ry’s words. “Ry, you’re gonna be healing for the nextweek.”

“Oh, I’m not waiting that long.” This guy was such a horn dog.

I mean, I wouldn’t really have it any other way. It was lightening the occasion somewhat. I think one of the things I worried about from having this much blood on my face was my future abilityto attract my own mates. Nice to know that wasn’t going to be a problem.

I mean, I was still worried I would never turn back into my human self ever again and that I was just this Queen Bitch Alpha Female I had turned into now.

“Fine, I’ll take her from behind, you grab the kill,” Caelum groaned, then shook his head. “Worst fucking beta ever.”

“You love me, c’mon,” Ry grinned, looking very confident for someone who couldn’t stand up straight. He turned into a wolf in front of me, followed quickly by Caelum.

It was such a smooth, beautiful process when they did it. Almost like they were doing an impressive gymnastics-move and landed on their feet as wolves. Admittedly, I had only done it once, but it hadn’t felt smooth that first time. Halfway through, I’d wondered if I was going to get stuck as a weird looking monster. I was definitely going to have to work on the whole wolf transformation part once this was all over.

My wolf fucking knew what Ry was all about, and she was not having it. She moved Juana’s body away from Ry as he slowly approached. I didn’t know if Ry had the inability to be smooth about it, or if this was all his wolf’s stupid plan, but his idea was to approach like a wolf who was definitely going to take away a kill from another wolf.
