Walking around with these two gods, making us look official, might put me in the spotlight. One I’m guessing will be harsh and filled with haters. Like the women from last night.

That nasty, sinking feeling is hard to shake away.

I drink a second mimosa to calm my nerves.

When the waiter arrives, Ford lets me choose my own food this time. All the sex we’ve had in the last twelve hours calmedhimdown. He looks utterly relaxed and even more handsome if that’s possible.

After salivating over the Greek omelet on the menu, I pair it with sourdough toast. I’ll only nibble on one slice. I choose the fruit option instead of potatoes.

Ford speaks up, breaking the moment of silence.

“I looked up Stella Raven Designs. According toher website portal for investors, after three lines, she turned a profit.”

I push away a twitch of anger that he investigated her. And how did he get into the investor portal? But I have to let it go. It’s who he is.

“I trusted Stella knew what she was doing.”

“You can trust Victoria, too,” Ash says, his arm draped behind me.

“I’m done beating around the bush,” Ford says with his hands folded on the table, like it’s a board meeting. “Iwillget your designs back one way or another. And that includes paying a guard to hold your shitty ex’s head over a toilet bowl filled with piss and shit, to make him confess.”

What’s shocking is, he’snotkidding.

“Then when you get them,” he continues, “I suggest you sell them to Stella for a nice sum of money. She’s got a team of people working for her. I’m not saying she doesn’t need you.” He strokes my cheek. “Butweneed you here. Full time. We want you. We want you with us.”

“Ford.” I chew on my lower lip.

“I can get an expert to evaluate what those designs are worth and negotiate a killer buyout. That’s capital for you to either do your own line or freelance to Victoria.”

“She mentioned the same thing,” I reluctantly admit, hating that I’m considering abandoning Stella.

“You have options, baby.” Ash gently brings my attention to him. “Just remember that.”

“What if Idon’tget the designs back? What if Michael destroyed them?” I choke on my mimosa. “That will hurt Stella’s business.”

“Then I will have every bone in his body broken,”Ford mutters under his breath. “Even if he gets out, he’ll be breathing with a tube the rest of his miserable life.”

Ash and I stare at Ford, jaws dropped.

“Either way, we’ll help you.” Ash breaks the tension and squeezes my thigh under the table. “You’re not alone anymore.”

“I promise,” I say, exhaling. “I will strongly consider everything.”

A job might be waiting for me in California, but love is in front of my eyes right here.

WE HAVE A MAGICAL DAYin the city. I love how the leaves changing in the park makes me so happy.

We don’t have seasons like this in Los Angeles.

Ford, Ash, and I walk and walk. At one point, I alternate sitting on both their laps while we sip pumpkin lattes on a park bench, nibbling on warm pretzels.

My mind wanders to Emery, and the lingering sadness that he’s not called me as promised seems to grow with every hour that passes. Ford and Ash made it clearhedoesn’t do relationships. But I still have two weeks with him according to the auction agreement.

I see something in Emery’s eyes that tells me I’m different from his other prizes.

Special.

Heck, he kissed me.
