“Is it okay that Ash picks me up here?”

“Of course. I expected him to.” Ford steps back and runs a hand through his hair.

He looks adorably out of sorts.

I assume it takes a lot to throw off a towering, ex-military, Harvard Law School man.

“I’m not ready. He’s early.” I grab my phone. “I’ll tell him to wait downstairs.”

“No. I’ll go let him in.” Ford cups his hand over mine.

“Wait...” I’m oddly curious to see them together, but Ford doesn’t know I know their history. “Can you help me with my dress?”

“You said you didn’t need help.” Ford lowers a hungry gaze at me.

“I changed my mind.” I send Ash a text that I’ll be ready in a few minutes.

Ford eyes my robe and smiling, I drop it.

Laughing at my matronly slip, Ford guffaws, “My grandmother wore those.”

How he knows about granny slips is something I’m not touching.

“I’m old school.” I don’t mention the most uncomfortable and strangling shapewear sits underneath.

Removing the dress from the velvet hanger, I unzip it. But Ford takes it from me.

He shakes it out and stares down at me from his incredible height.

“Hands in the air.” Ford’s command sends heat across my skin.

Hands on the headboard...

The sultry demand echoes in my thoughts from one of my smutty romance novels.

Careful not to mess up my hair, Ford rolls the dress down my body like a whitewater rafting thrill. His hands deftly ride every one of my curves.

“This necklace suits you. Say the word and I’ll buy it for you.” Ford fastens it around my neck and runs a finger across my collarbone. “You have a month of these benefits.”

“That’s not necessary.” I watch his eyes dip into my deep V-neckline. “Besides, shouldn’t Ash buy them if I’m his date?”

“You’re right.” Ford steps back.

“I’ve kept the good doctor waiting long enough.” I grab my shoes and head to the door.

“Never worry about keeping a man waiting,” Ford quickly says. “Just when you think he can’t bear to be without you another minute, add on a few more.” He ends with a devilish wink.

Except, my experience with men is completely the opposite of whatever the hell is happening here.

Most men won’t wait forever for any woman. Most men would haveleftme in that seedy motel. Most men wouldn’t have bid hundreds of thousands of dollars on me.

Ford opens my bedroom door and holds my hand down the stairs to the living room. I plan to put my shoes on down there.

I stop, and Ford bumps into me when I see Ashton standing by the kitchen.

“How did you get in here?” Ford’s hands close possessively around my shoulders.

“You never changed the door code,” Ash says to Ford but then lowers his eyes on me. “Bernadette, my God, you look beautiful.”
