My human body.

My very naked, very human body pressed against every ridge of him.

Chapter XXVI

“You’refinallyawake.”

My breath caught in my throat. “You’re here.”

“Where else would I be?”

Wherever is it you go when I wake up alone.I’d mourned the loss of it for so many days, but did this—the day I’d turned back into my human form after being stuck as a wolf—haveto be the day Cole picked to stick around?

“Can’t you at least pretend to be asleep so I can sneak out of this bed?”

Cole’s grip tightened against my torso.

Our bodies were pressed together. And both of us were naked. My face grew hot as I realized exactly what part of Cole was pressed against my back. By the feeling, it was… large. And he was hard.

“So eager to leave me?” His words were a warm caress against my ear.

Every fiber of my being wanted me to curl back into his embrace. To turn over, to roll my hips on top of his and lean over his naked, delicious-smelling body. My nipples hardened into stiff peaks, wanting to be played with.

Shit.Shit, I could not do this with Cole right now. Especially not after I just spent the past three days trailing him like a lovesick puppy.

A girl had to have some pride. And falling over myself to be in the arms of a male who had avoided waking up with me despite forcing me to share his room was not going to help with that.

The worst part of it was if he was even half the shifter I knew the King of Hell to be, he wouldn’t be able to miss the scent of exactly how much I didn’t want to leave this bed.

“I’ve got, um, things to do today.” I tried to wriggle out of his grip, but the slight catch of Cole’s breath told me that was going to have the opposite effect desired.

At this, Cole finally released his grip.

“Yes, you do.”

He moved out of bed and I was treated to a view of a very sculpted backside along with his winding tattoo as he pulled a discarded pair of slacks on. He turned back on me and I quickly jerked the thin cover over myself.

“You’re going to tell me how you got stuck in your wolf form for the past three days.” It was the return of his Alpha do-what-I-say-or-else tone.

“I made a deal,” I hedged.

The look he gave me had no doubt intimidated many of his subjects. “Tell me what you agreed to.”

I sat up because I couldn’t stand to have him towering over me while I lay in bed, careful to keep the blanket clutched to my chest.

“You want secrets? I’ll show youmineif you show meyours.”

I’d meant to be glib, but when Cole’s eyes darkened and dipped to my body, which was barely hidden by the thin blanket, it was immediately obvious where Cole’s mind had gone.

And as my gaze roved over every inch of him, my mind went to the same filthy place.

“I should punish you for that insolence.”

My mind went further to the gutter.

“By making you run laps,” he mused, clearly enjoying the way I got flustered at his innuendo.

“No, no, you’re far too busy with your kingly duties for me.”
