“Let the celebration begin,” Cole declared.

On his cue, music began playing, a jaunty, cheerful tune.

“No slow first dance?” I teased. It wasn’t like Cole was anything less than an exceptional dancer.

“If I don’t have you alone in the next five minutes, I’m going to take you in front of the entire kingdom.”

A bolt of arousal went straight to my core. I glanced around, blushing in case someone had heard.

“Unless you like that idea,” he said, considering. “Though I hate the thought of sharing you with our guests.”

My face was in flames. “Just get me out of here.”

Cole could’ve made us disappear in a blink, but he seemed to relish shepherding me through the crowd with a possessive arm draped low on my waist. I’d never thought I could have this, not even with my moon-matched mate when I’d been just a girl dreaming of a way out of that awful pack. Then, I would’ve settled for someone I could tolerate for a few hours as long as they were part of another pack. Someone who I could trust, someone who was proud to be with me?

I’d never let myself imagine it.

Cole extricated us from the ballroom with practiced ease despite dozens of attempts at conversation by our attendees.

“We’re awful hosts,” I mused. “Sneaking out just minutes after getting married without so much as a toast.”

“We can toast in a few hours.”

“A few hours? Isn’t that bad manners?”

“Do I look like I care?”

No. He looked like a man with only one thing on his mind.

He wound me down an empty hallway. Though there was nothingparticularly secluded about it, I felt Cole’s magic around me. It was like having his fingers graze the back of my neck, familiar and sensual. No one would disturb us here. “We’re the monarchs of Hell. We can bend a few rules here and there.”

“Well—”

My next teasing protest was cut off with a gasp as he spun me against the wall so my back pressed all along him. Damn, even through this thick dress I could feel him.

“Besides,” he rasped, the sound low and wanting. I arched into it. “There’s not a creature in that room that could blame me for wanting the bride alone after seeing you in that dress.” His hands ran the length of it from my hips until they curved around my chest with a squeeze.

“This old thing?” I tried to be coy, but there was no point. Not when his touch turned my voice into a husky plea.

“Do you want to tease me, little queen? Or do you want me to give you what you need?”

“You mean whatyouneed?” He had me pinned under him, but that meant I was in the perfect position to jerk my hips back and press against his length.

He hissed.

“Better get started on those buttons.” I tilted my head back and to the side to move my hair out of the way. If I twisted just enough, I could see Cole’s expression. The hunger in it called to me, moving from my eyes to my lips to my neck, a dangerous, wild hunger. Something spurred me on to tease him rather than give in. Just because we were married didn’t mean I’d start letting him steamroll me. “I’m not having you shred my wedding dress while I still need to go back to our guests.”

“Maybe we won’t go back at all.”

“Then we’d beterriblehosts.”

“That’s a conundrum.” He held my gaze, a daring glint in it. “Then maybe we should go back right now. Since you don’t want to ruin your dress.”

I growled at him. “Put those talented fingers to work and get started on the buttons, Cole.”

“Talented fingers, hmm?” he mused.

Those cursed fingers didn’t move to the buttons. Instead, they were everywhere else, squeezing, playing, taunting. Sensual need stirred low in me. I squeezed my thighs together, trying to calm the ache.
