“You wouldn’t believe it, bro…she knew. She fucking knew!” I burst in, interrupting his gaming session. At that moment, he immediately dies in the game, and I can see his jaws clench and his eyes narrow into slits.

When he wasn’t yet appointed as my royal confidant, this would have been my cue to run. Thank God for royalty.

“Who knew what, Your High…”

“Hakeem.”

“You interrupted my game. Tit for tat,” he says blandly.

I hate that he’s not wrong.

“Well, who knew what, then?” he probes me.

“Rebecca! She knew Thomas killed my dad.Babawas killed and guess what? It was her father who gave the order,” I tell him with great restraint against picking up something and tossing it against a wall.

For some reason, Hakeem seems a little confused. “I mean…yeah…so?”

“She was hiding information from me all this while! And she claimed to like me!” I put my hands on the back of my head and let out a dramatic sigh.

Much to my annoyance, I see a smile on Hakeem’s face.

“What the fuck is making you smile?” I grimace even further as if the scowl on my face wasn’t enough.

“So, you love Rebecca…otherwise you shouldn’t be this upset,” he says smugly.

“No,ayyuha alwa?du!”I curse. “I don’t…I’m just making sure that…”

Now, I pause.

It then begins to make sense to me. I’ve always denied my love for Rebecca…at least, to Hakeem.

“Well…not anymore, I don’t…” I finally admit.

Hakeem bursts into one of his laughing fits. “You love Rebecca, still,Habibi!”

I roll my eyes. “I do not. She’s with the enemy now.”

“Is she?” he asks a question that stills my world.

Is Rebecca really with the enemy?I mean, she knew, claims that she found out recently…and that tallies.

I’m guessing that was when all her blanking and spacey episodes started.

If she found out just recently, and she attempted to hide it, should I blame her?

Ultimately, now, it’s Hakeem I blame.

His question turns me into a ghost myself and for the rest of the time I have in the house, I can’t focus. I keep thinking about my reason for being angry with Rebecca and the more I dwell on it, the less tenable it gets.

That still doesn’t mean I’m not angry, though.

When it’s time to go and pick up Skylar, I leave the house, promising to come back with more details on how my mission would be executed.

I know Hakeem is very nonchalant about it, but he still must hear them anyway to know where he can assist me.

Today, instead of taking Skylar straight home, I treat her to a very expensive dinner at a restaurant.

The main purpose, though, is because I want to eat there. It’s been a while since I’ve had some expensive steak, and my mouth has been watering for some.
