I couldn't resist his icy blue eyes that sought to claim me.

I let him dominate my mind and every inch of my body.

Once the night faded away so did my liquid courage.

I left without a trace not ready to commit to anything more than a memory.

A year later, he's my new demanding boss who seeks payback for my vanishing act.

My workload is ridiculous and he hopes I crack under pressure.

The tension only brings us closer… unexpectedly close, considering the two pink lines I'm now facing.

Chapter One- ALYSSA

As I put the finishing touches on the bride's makeup, a fleeting thought crosses my mind:I could have been the one in this chair.

Admiring her stunning beauty, I notice the striking resemblance between us—long, flowing dark hair and the kind of blue eyes that could draw anyone in. Today is a day she'll treasure, and my task is to not only enhance her beauty but to make her feel as extraordinary as she truly is.

Lifting the mirror for her to see, I can't help but grin. "You look gorgeous, Christina."

Her excited squeal echoes in response as she takes in her transformed reflection. My smile mirrors hers, seeing my clients happy with their makeup is the best part. The job can be a bit draining, but their reactions make it all worth it.

"Alyssa, you've outdone yourself! I couldn't have made a better choice hiring you for this job."

I nod, a grateful smile playing on my lips. "Thank you."

"Wow, you look incredible, Christina! I can't wait for my turn," One of the bridesmaids chimes in.

Christina places her hand lightly on my arm. "Oh my goodness, you should totally stick around for the ceremony. You'll have so much fun."

I try my best to conceal my feelings with a smile.

I was kind of hoping she wouldn't ask, but the reality is that most brides do. Weddings can be a bit tough for me.

I was supposed to marry Mike, my high school sweetheart.

Everyone, including my mom, kept saying we were too young to tie the knot. They advised us to explore the world, date around, and have fun. But, as usual, I brushed off their advice.

I believed I knew what was right for me, even though the warning signs were glaring. His family never warmed up to me, and he had a way of belittling me while trying to make amends with gifts. Back then, I was just eighteen, full of youthful idealism. I've always been a hopeless romantic, so when he proposed right after graduation, I couldn't find it in me to refuse.

Without a moment's hesitation, I dove headfirst into wedding planning mode. Cake flavors, flower choices, and centerpieces became my obsession.

The wedding gown I fell for was a modern off-the-shoulder mermaid wedding dress. The gown was a timeless portrait of beauty and I couldn't wait to wear it.

The invitations had been sent, and the wedding date was quickly approaching. But then, just when everything seemed to be falling into place, my world took an unexpected turn. Sarah, my maid of honor, was nowhere to be found during my bachelorette party. It was baffling – how could the person with the most crucial role miss such an event?

My other bridesmaids rallied to salvage the night.

They were determined to make the evening memorable.

I'm taken to a lively club. Despite their efforts, my heart's not in it. My mind is racing with questions and every time I call Sarah her phone goes straight to voicemail which makes me a little worried about her. Where is my best friend and maid of honor?

Feeling a little bummed out, I decide to cut the night short.

As I make my way back to our apartment, I know I'll find Mike waiting for me. His bachelor party in Vegas had taken place the week before, and the thought of being in his arms was all I crave.
