“Now, like I just told Levi,” she says as she clears her throat while continuing to type. “If you get any hassle about posting guards, have me paged or text me. I can pull a few strings to get one of our department heads to come down and talk to you. If you have a valid reason for posting the guards, I doubt he’d object.”

“Why would you do that for us?” Smoke asks skeptically.

She turns to look at him. “I’m friends with Luke or Patch, as he’s known to the club. From what I know about your club, you all are good men.”

“Yeah, but why put your neck out for us?”

“I have a feeling something is going on to have three people from your club shot in broad daylight. Based on your guys’ reputation, I’m guessing none of your guys fired first, especially since Levi was with them. So, my guess is that someone’s pissed off at you for some reason. Now, are you through interrogating me, or do you have more questions? Luke warned me the one called Smoke would probably start running background checks on any nurse that would be looking after any of his club members if they were ever hurt in the future. Judging by your vest, that’s you. So, any more questions?”

I bite my lip, but I couldn’t fully stifle my giggle. Ryder’s shoulders were shaking slightly from his laughter. The corner of Jax’s lips tip up, even though he glares at me for giggling.

“Sorry, Jax, but she totally called you on that one.” I can’t help it. Laughter spills out of me, which only gets louder when I look back at Allison, only to find her staring down Jax with her eyebrow raised.

“That’s it for now, but we may have more questions later if we do run into a snag. Oh, and it’s a cut, not a vest.”

Allison nods and pulls a notepad out of her pocket, jotting down some information, and then hands it to me.

“Here you go girl, since I have a feeling you won’t be leaving till your men and your friend do. Give me a holler if you need something. It shouldn’t be too much longer before all of them wake up.”

“Thank you, Allison.”

She gives me a quick hug and with a nod to the guys, she hurries out, but not before I can see her blushing.

Without a word, Ryder follows her out.

I shake my head but smile. “I have a feeling we may see more of Allison in the future.”

A groan has me quickly turning back to Thor.

“What’s going on?”

Judging by the smell, I’m not in the clubhouse or our house. The smell of bleach is too strong.

There’s a beeping noise that’s making my head hurt. Voices are murmuring around me and then laughter rings out.

Levi’s laughter.

Everything comes rushing back to me. The doctor’s visit. Finding out we’re having twins. Walking down the street and then being shot at. Shit, Levi!

I open my eyes, but the lights are too bright.

Why is there laughter?

“What’s going on?”

Levi gasps and then she’s cradling my hand.

I try opening my eyes again, blinking rapidly.

“Thor!”

My eyes settle on her face and my heart breaks at seeing her red-rimmed eyes, tears running down her cheeks.

“You’re not hurt, are you?”

She shakes her head no and I breathe a sigh of relief.

“How’s Dragon? Ethan?”
