Her brow creases and then she snatches the pen out of the air before shooting to her feet.

“Fuck. Okay, stay with the club. Did you already let Thor know?”

Fuck, fuck, fuck. What the hell is going on?

After a few moments, she nods.

“Okay, bye.”

She hangs up and takes a few deep breaths.

“Travis left. Gave some bullshit reason that his parents needed him for something.”

“Fuck, the little snake is running.”

“Yeah, he is,” she grits out, her fists clenching and unclenching as she paces.

“Come here, Spitfire.”

She shakes her head.

“Give me a few moments and I will.”

“Nope. Get that sexy ass over here and lie down with me.”

“You better not be thinking anything sexual, Nick. You were shot today,” she shakes her head and rubs her temple, but she keeps pacing.

“Oh, I’m definitely thinking sexual things about you, Spitfire, but even my dumbass knows now isn’t a good time for that. Now, get your sexy ass in this bed before I get up and drag your ass over here.”

She rolls her eyes and crawls in bed with me, but not before smacking my shoulder.

“Nothing strenuous for you for a while, mister,” she says as she snuggles up to me.

I hold her for a few minutes as my mind goes back to Travis. Levi was on the right train of thought earlier. What changed that caused him to switch sides? Or was he always working with them?

“When did you say Travis and Ethan moved to Forest Creek?”

“Both of their families moved here at the end of our freshman year. The houses sat empty for about a month after they were sold. We later found out that was so they could finish out the school year at their previous school.”

“So around sixteen then?”

“Yeah, I was the last to turn sixteen that summer.

“Did they know each other before they moved here?”

Levi pauses as she thinks and then shakes her head. “No, they didn’t, and they didn’t live near each other before they moved, either. We actually met them through Alexei because all three of them were playing baseball that summer.”

Worry begins to set in that my suspicion could be true.

“And you all went to the same college?”

“Yeah. It was the closest one that wasn’t a community college. I didn’t want to move away too far and none of us wanted to pay out-of-state tuition. They had a decent business program for me, so that’s why I chose it. The twins both had full art scholarships there, and Ethan had a partial scholarship. I was actually surprised that Ethan and Travis both chose Wisconsin University because Berkers College of Art & Design actually has a better architecture program.”

Fuck, yeah, I wouldn’t want to pay out-of-state tuition either. That shit is expensive. Wait.

“Did they say why they chose Wisconsin University over Berkers?”

“Ethan didn’t get any scholarships to Berkers, but he did to Wisconsin University. That’s why he chose Wisconsin University.”
