Her shoulders slump in what appears to be defeat. As she takes a long draw of her beer, I try not to show I’m anxiously awaiting her answer.

Another selfish reason that I want her close to us is so she can get to know us better. Be more comfortable around us. Yeah, it’s a bit of a dick move. We could have posted guards at her place and the twins’ place, but all my brothers live within the compound. Even the prospects. If they were all here, it’s true that we’d be able to protect them better. It would be harder if we had to spread everyone out amongst multiple locations.

“Okay. Can my stuff be put in your garage for now? I want to go through everything to make sure there’s no cameras on anything before they come inside.”

I nod, relieved she’s thinking along the same lines as I was about her stuff. “We can have Smoke come over tomorrow to see if he can get a read on anything transmitting a signal.”

“We’ll have to talk to the others for their take. Though, they should be making their appearance known soon,” she says before chuckling lightly.

“Wha—fuckin’ ninja’s, the whole fuckin’ lot of ya. I swear someday I’m putting a fucking bell on you, Bear,” Dragon mutters as everyone steps out of the shadows, grinning at us.

Fuck, I never knew Roy could move so quietly. He isn’t as big as Bear, but he’s built. Even Travis and Ethan hardly make a sound.

“Fuck’s sake, Bear. That shit is meant to be saved for our enemies. Not for scaring the shit out of your brothers,” I say as I run a hand through my hair. Bear chuckles darkly at me before his gaze lands on Levi.

“You think I’m bad? Just wait for that one. She’s better than the rest of us. Combined.”

A wicked grin spreads across Levi’s gorgeous face as she wiggles her eyebrows. “I sense we could pull some serious pranks here.”

Her grin deepens as I glare at her. Both Dragon and I speak in unison, our voices heavy with warning.

“Spitfire.”

“Wildcat.”

She looks between us and starts laughing.

“Gonna tan that ass of yours if you try anything, baby girl,” I mutter, but don’t miss the shiver that runs through her and if I wasn’t watching her so closely, I’d have missed how her legs clench together. Damn near blew in my pants at that combined with the saucy look and wink she gives us.

“Not much of a deterrent, gents.”

“Fuck,” we both curse, and her laughter rings out as the others join in.

Roy’s the only one not laughing and gives both Dragon and me a hard look as if to say, ‘I’ll beat your asses if you hurt her’.

As the laughter starts dying down, Levi moves to get up, but I stand with my hand out for her empty bottle. She hands it to me and gives me a small smile as she leans back in her chair. As I head toward the fridge, I discreetly adjust myself, but don’t miss Phoenix’s grin.

Shit. I’d almost forgotten that he was here, even though he’s my best friend. Then again, the man is usually quiet, but whenever he does speak, you damn well better make sure to listen. Also, the fucker is almost as bad as Bear with how sneaky he can be, which has me on edge if these five are as good as Bear says they are.

Beers in hand, I head back to the group and give Levi hers before plopping back down in my chair. We chat for a while, and everyone relaxes more as we get to know each other better.

Around eleven o’clock, Levi seems to be getting quieter and quieter. She’d stare off into space and would either pick at her nails or twirl a knife. Though I’m amazed at how well she can twirl a knife subconsciously and not injure herself in the process.

Occasionally she’d chuckle at something someone said or engage in conversation, but she wouldn’t say much. I glance over at Sasha to see if it’s just me noticing it, but she also seems worried as she keeps an eye on her friend.

By the time midnight rolls around, Levi seems to be fully trapped in her head. She hasn’t said anything, laughed, or smiled at anything for about twenty minutes or so. I’m getting more and more worried about tonight, hoping she won’t have nightmares after reliving that shit. Catching Sasha’s eye, I subtly nod toward Levi, and she gives me a worried nod back. She claps her hands together and stands up. The abrupt change startles Levi, and she jumps a bit in her chair as her hand snaps out to grab the hilt of her blade.

“I’m gonna head in. Come on,??????, you look dead on your feet. How about you show us our rooms, boys?”

With a nod, I get up and hold out my hand to help Levi to her feet. She hesitates, but eventually takes it. Giving it a squeeze, I start back inside, but stop and turn back toward the group.

“Phoenix, can you show the others where their rooms are at the clubhouse? Prospects should have them all prepped by now.”

“You got it, Pres.”

The others turn to follow him, but Alexei stays back as he watches Levi anxiously.

“You go,????. I’ll help??????. Besides, these two won’t let anything happen to her.”
