“Liam!” she gasps, but then giggles.

I cock an eyebrow at her. “Well, you did say you wanted me to put a baby in you. Gotta make sure it all stays where it’s supposed to be.”

Her eyes darken, but I need to let her sleep. It’s already past one and we have a big day tomorrow.

“Be right back, Sunshine.”

Walking into the bathroom, I wet a washcloth, and head back into the bedroom to clean her up. Turning off the light, I throw the washcloth toward the hamper, lay down, and pull her close to me as I cover us with the blankets.

She sighs as she nestles up close to me, and soon, her breathing evens out. I kiss her shoulder, smiling against her skin when she breaks out in goosebumps. Kissing her shoulder again, I close my eyes, letting sleep take me.

I pull at my collar, hating it, but at the same time loving it. After Sunshine had gone off with the ladies this morning to get ready, I quickly ran into town to get a quick trim and pick up a nicer white long-sleeve button-up shirt. I already had one that I had planned to wear, but since I’ll also be getting married today, I felt that I should get a new shirt.

Thor and Dragon had told me the place they went to get theirs, and I took their recommendation. The guy that runs the place hooked us up and in less than two hours, we were all back at the compound. Smoke, Axe, Punisher, Erik, Dominick, and Gunner had gone with me. With the exception of Smoke, they’ll be my groomsmen along with Thor and Dragon. Though Dragon will be my best man. Since Smoke already had a white shirt for Levi’s wedding, he got a royal blue shirt for when he walks Mae down the aisle.

Dragon being my best man had made Mae a little hesitant because of their history, but she also knows he’s one of my closest friends. I hope like fuck he apologizes to her and they’re able to get to know each other better.

Shaking off those thoughts, I look around the main room again. Ashley, Ginger, Amy, Sarah, Mama Astrid, and Peggy are all putting the final touches on the decorations. The place is buzzing with excitement as guests start trickling in.

Frowning, I notice Patch sitting at the bar with a beer as he stares at his phone. Even from across the room, I can tell he’s anxious as fuck. Sliding onto the barstool next to him, I motion for Lex to bring me a beer.

Turning toward Patch, my frown deepens. “What’s going on, man?”

He sighs. “Remember that woman I told you about that’s been in and out of the ER multiple times the past six months?”

“Yeah. Her name’s Mary, right?”

He nods glumly. “Yeah, well, back in the day, she was my best friend. She, Allison, Brady, and I were close as could be. We were always together, though it helped we all lived next to each other, and our parents were all friends.

“Anyway, in high school, Mary and I started dating. We were each other’s firsts. Then about a few of months later, she disappeared with no warning and her house was put on the market.”

He pauses and I get the feeling he isn’t telling me something, but I don’t push him on it.

“I never heard from her in the past nine years until I saw her that first time in the ER six months ago. Every time she’s in there, her injuries are worse than the last time,” he says, his lip curling.

“I know you can’t tell me specifics, but I hope like fuck you aren’t suggesting her husband is beating her.”

He turns toward me and fuck, do I know that look.

“Fuck. Who’s the dead man walking?”

His face turns thunderous and his hands tighten on his phone so much that his fingertips turn white. “Fucking Deputy Chief Stephen Haynes.”

“You’ve got to be fucking shitting me,” I snarl. “I always knew I hated that fucker. I don’t know how he weaseled his way into our town, but I knew he was crooked from the first time I saw the slimy bastard.”

Patch’s sneer darkens. “He always plays the doting husband in public, but at home, it’s a fucking shitshow. I know because one of her kids told me when the fucker stepped out of the room. I gave her my number and the club’s number. Told her oldest to memorize it as well. That if they’re in danger, they can call us and we’d get them all out of there.”

I narrow my eyes at him. “What aren’t you telling me?”

He looks over at me nervously before looking around, but no one’s paying us much attention. His Adam’s apple bobs as he swallows thickly. “I think her eldest, Asher, is my son. She’s been away for nine years and he’s nine. I had suspicions that she was pregnant before she disappeared, but that’s all they were unless you count a home pregnancy test that was found in her trash. However, we all know they can give false positives. She has two other kids that are younger, Isaiah and Cassie, with Cassie being the youngest. Asher, or Ash as she calls him, looks just like I did when I was that age if you change the hair out. While all three kids have Mary in them, all of them but Ash have bits of Stephen in their looks,” he whispers.

Fuck.

Large hands land on both of our shoulders, and we both jump as Thor chuckles at our surprise. “We’ve got your back, Patch, on whatever needs to be done to get her and her kids away from that fucker. Later, come find me and fill me in on what’s all happened so far. Keep me posted.”

And with that, he walks off and heads upstairs.

“Fuck, I didn’t even hear him walk up to us,” Patch says with a sad laugh as he shakes his head.
