Thankfully, I’m throwing fifth for our team because I need some time to get my emotions in check after my spat with Dragon. Unfortunately, that fucker’s right behind me as the sixth thrower for our team. He better not say anything about her while we’re waiting for our turns.

While I wish I could go over and sit with my sunshine until my turn, we had all previously decided that the participants would stay near the stage and in throwing order if possible. Unless we needed to grab a beer or take a piss, that is. Though if we don’t show within a couple minutes of our names being called, we end up forfeiting. There are also chairs scattered nearby if we want, but I’m too anxious and pissed to sit down right now.

Cheers erupt once again when both Gunner and Razor step up to throw first for both teams. My gaze locks with Sunshine and my shoulders relax slightly at seeing her smile, even though I can tell it’s strained as fuck. She gives me a thumbs up, which has me grinning like a madman despite how I’m feeling.

As I try to ignore Dragon, who’s still standing behind me, my attention wanders over to the Junction Creek guys since I’m pretty familiar with how well everyone on our team throws. Based on the last time I saw them throw, which was almost a month ago, they’ve improved a lot going off of how much better Razor’s doing.

With what I saw before for the Junction Creek guys, I’m guessing Punisher for sure will be in the end mix. I’ve also seen enough of his knife work throughout the years to know he’s damn good with a blade. Then probably Reaper and Razor, unless some of the others have improved more since last time. Once Reaper healed enough from the wounds he sustained when he and Levi were kidnapped a few months ago, he put his all into training. I think it gave his mind something to focus on besides what they both had gone through together.

For our team in all honesty, I’m almost positive it’ll come down to Levi, Sasha, and Alexei since they were all trained the longest by Levi’s grandfather. He was, well still is, a fucking legend in the knife throwing community. And me? I’ll be lucky if I make it to the second round. While I love the sport, I’m definitely not even close to being as good as them.

Glancing back over at Sunshine, I smile when I see both Jordan and Sadie sitting on her lap as they cheer for everyone. My smile grows when I see Sunshine laughing and smiling with only a hint of the dark cloud hanging over her. The sight has me wishing for something I’ve never really thought I’d have. To have my own children sitting on her lap as she plays, reads, or just talks with them. A family. My family.

Fuck.

My body freezes at that thought since I’ve never considered having children in the past after witnessing my parents fuck it all up with my siblings and me. Whenever I was with a woman before, and yes there were a lot of them, I never pictured having a family with them. And I haven’t even been with Sunshine in that sense yet. Still, the thought of her belly round with my child has my cock straining against my jeans even harder than it already was.

Thor’s voice calls out my name and I’m surprised so much time has passed already. Fuck, was I really in my head for that long?

Climbing the steps, I do my best to breathe deep to try and steel my nerves. When I hear Sunshine, Jordan, and Sadie cheering for me, I look over my shoulder and can’t help the smile that pulls at my lips. Giving her a wink, I turn back toward the targets and get in position, letting out another deep breath in the process. Loki throws his first blade and I follow suit, just barely missing a bullseye.

A chuckle escapes me when I hear a loud ‘whoop!’ from Sunshine and my shoulders relax even further with her support. Which is a strange feeling for me.

We each take turns throwing our blades at the ten-foot line and then the fifteen-foot line before switching sides and doing it again. Round one ends with a score of 25—20, with me in the lead.

Loki ends up winning round two at 20—18. Round three goes to me at 28—15, though his blade did drop a couple of times, which moves me onto the next round.

“Congrats, man,” Loki says as he clasps my shoulder and follows me down the stairs.

“Thanks.”

Normally I’d bullshit with him, but my mind’s too preoccupied right now.

As I make my way through my team, they each give me a shoulder slap of congratulations. Even Dragon congrats me as he climbs the stairs, which surprises the fuck out of me. He pauses as he gets to the ten-foot line, his gaze fixed out at the crowd before it lands on me. His head tilts toward the crowd before he turns to face his target.

Murmurs have me turning around to find Susie and Sunshine carrying a cooler between them toward us. Both Jordan and Sadie are trailing behind them, each with water bottles in their arms. I rush forward, along with Tripp.

“Let us carry that, Sunshine.”
