After a few minutes my phone dings and I open it up to see a picture Sasha sent me. Mae’s laying on the couch asleep with both Sadie and Jordan snuggled up in her arms, also asleep.

“Awwww, that’s cute. Send it to me, too,” Levi says, having come up behind me.

Guess whatever she said was quick, but I don’t miss the grip she has on the pen in her hands. I’m honestly surprised she didn’t pull out a blade and was twirling it instead.

“You okay?” I ask her and she sighs.

“I will be once he pulls his head out of his ass.”

Nodding, I frown but then my phone dings again with another picture from Sasha. This one must have been from earlier because the kids are still snuggled deep in Sunshine’s arms, but all three of them are talking in this picture.

“What’s got you grinning?” Axe asks as he comes over and slaps my back. I turn my phone around and he grins as well, then I show him the other picture.

“Send me those, brother. Now, come on. Susie mentioned Mae wanted to go shopping for some stuff. I’ll tag along and help keep an eye out with you.”

Without saying a word, Tripp and Gunner join us as well. The five of us exit the clubhouse and walk to my house in silence.

Quietly, I open the door. Levi pushes past me and makes a beeline straight toward Mae, who is now awake. She hugs her, careful not to wake the kids.

“I’ve got your back, babe,” I hear Levi saying quietly to her.

Tears fill Mae’s eyes as she says thank you.

Sunshine turns toward me, and I can’t help but grin. Walking over to her, I kiss her. “Ready to go shopping, Sunshine?”

“Yeah, but who’s going to watch the kids? The ladies all want to go with me.”

“I wanna go with MaeMae, too,” Sadie says as she sits up and rubs her eyes.

“Me, too. I want to keep you safe from the bad guys. Don’t worry, Auntie MaeMae, Uncle Smoke will soon realize that he’s wrong, and then he’ll help protect you from the bad guys, too,” Jordan says.

All of us go still at his words.

Fuck, what all did Smoke go on a rant about in front of them? Axe looks at me and gives me a slight chin lift, though I see the muscle in his jaw tick from clenching. He’ll fill me in about what all was said in a bit. My gaze snags to Sunshine, who’s doing her damndest not to cry. She pulls both kids in close and kisses their temples.

Tripp squats down in front of Jordan and gently squeezes his knee. “You’re right. Smoke will come around eventually, and when he does, I’m sure Mae here will put him through the wringer, making him grovel like crazy.” His words instantly cut through the tension and a few of us chuckle while the kids laugh.

Sunshine’s cheeks heat, but she doesn’t deny his words as she shakes her head.

Jordan sits up straighter. “Wait. That means Auntie MaeMae’s the club princess. She’s the firstborn girl to the club.”

Holy shit, he’s right. I didn’t think about it before, but shit. She’s going to have even more protection than I realized.

“That’s right, little man. Sunshine won’t be lacking protection, especially with us being the original club chapter.” My gaze cuts to Sunshine and I say these next words for her since the others know already. “What I mean by that is Thor’s the president of all the Steel Archangel’s chapters. You already would have had protection due to being Smoke’s daughter, but with Smoke adopting Levi, that makes you Thor’s niece. And while we’re on that topic, I’m sure you’ve all heard us call Levi, Queen. That’s because she’s the Queen of all the Steel Archangel’s Old Ladies, since she’s Thor’s Old Lady.”

Mae looks at Levi, and at Levi’s nod, understanding seems to dawn on Sunshine.

A thought pops into my head, and as much as I try, I can’t push it away. I know she said she loved me, but if she just wants protection, she’ll get it because of who she is. She doesn’t have to stay with me to get it.

Sunshine gently lifts each kid off her lap, gets up, and walks over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist. Tilting her head up, I cup one of her cheeks while the other rests on her waist.

“I’m not leaving, Timber. I want to be with you and only you,” she whispers before placing a kiss on my chest.

Leaning down, I give her a quick kiss and push the thought from my head. I don’t know how she knew what I was worried about, but she quickly dispelled it.

Tripp quirks an eyebrow at me and I grin, giving him a chin lift. I need to get it on order for her ASAP. I don’t want to wait. He pulls out his phone and texts our contact.

Tapping her thigh, I pull back slightly and she looks up at me. “Why don’t you get your purse? Then we’ll all go shopping to get whatever else you need.”
