Frankie hit Mia's number. "Are you busy?"

"I'm working on an illustration, and Toven is in a meeting with Kian and the rest of the gang. Why? Do you want to meet up and do something together?"

"I would like to talk with some of the recently transitioned Dormants. Do you think you can call up your new relatives and we can meet on the Lido deck? We can talk over drinks."

Mia chuckled. "Let's see. There’s Darlene and Cassandra, Toven's granddaughters, and Roni, who is Toven's great-grandson, but he's busy right now, hacking into hotels in Acapulco."

"Why?"

"I don't know. That's what Darlene told me. We can also invite Kaia, who is not related to Toven directly, and Karen, who is a Dormant like you awaiting transition."

"Really?" Frankie perked up. "How long has she been trying?"

Mia chuckled. "She hasn't started yet. Her situation is complicated. Gilbert, her partner, is a newly transitioned immortal, which means that his fangs and venom are not yet fully functional, so he can't induce her transition. She can wait five more months or so until he's ready, or she can do what Darlene did and use a surrogate."

Frankie frowned. "What do you mean by a surrogate? Are you suggesting that she takes another immortal into her bed whenshe's in a committed relationship? Don't they have like five kids together?"

"Three. Kaia and Cheryl are Karen's daughters from a previous marriage. But yeah, it's complicated. They need the surrogate only for the bite, but you can imagine how difficult it is to coordinate a thing like that."

"Yeah, I bet." Frankie chuckled. "It would have been easy if Karen and Gilbert were the adventurous types who didn't mind experimenting with multiple partners, but I guess they are not."

"I don't think immortals are capable of that," Mia said. "Darlene's mate had to be chained to the bed to prevent him from attacking the guy who volunteered to be the surrogate."

"Oh, wow. I'm surprised that the guy volunteered. Who was it?"

"I don't think you know him. His name is Max."

Flirty Max was just the type to volunteer for something like that. Now, she was definitely introducing him to Margo.

"I've met him. He's cool."

"Yeah. Max is a good guy, and it was nice of him to volunteer. So, when do you want to meet up on the Lido deck?"

"As soon as possible. Dagor is in a meeting with Aru, and I don't know how long it will take, but I don't want to miss any time with him."

"I get it. Let's meet up in twenty minutes?"

"Perfect. It will give me time to grab a shower and get dressed."

Mia laughed. "I'm not going to ask why you need a shower in the middle of the day."

"I could have just returned from a swim in the pool."

"Right. But you didn't."

"I did not."

Mia laughed again. "I'll see you in a bit."

Smiling, Frankie put the phone on the nightstand and got out of bed. It was nice having Mia so close, and it would have been nice to move into the village and see her every day, but if it meant not being with Dagor, the choice was easy.

Her mate came first for the simple reason that she couldn't stand being apart from him, and he couldn't be apart from her either.

With the clan satellite phone, she could call Mia whenever she wanted from wherever she was, and it would be almost as good as being next to her in person. The same wasn't true for Dagor. She needed him to be near, needed to touch him, smell him, kiss him, hear him murmur in her ear…

Kian

"We can do it." William handed Kalugal a piece of paper. "Roni says that's the best hotel to route the calls through. It has hundreds of rooms, and despite what's going on with the cartels, it's about seventy percent booked. It also has a surveillance network covering all the public spaces, everything is accessible on the net, and Roni had no trouble hacking into their network."
