When the doorbell rang, Eric opened the way for Max, and the two did the bro hug while clapping each other on the back.

Gilbert wasn't on such friendly terms with the Guardian, so he just offered him his hand. "Thank you for coming. I know that the timing sucks, and you are busy with preparations for the Acapulco mission, but this can't wait." He handed him a glass.

"I have time." The Guardian took a small sip. "But I need to watch the alcohol today. We have target practice scheduled for an hour from now, and it's not a good idea to hold an automatic while inebriated." He took another sip. "Damn, this is good whiskey. It's really hard to say no."

Eric snorted. "You have a hard time with saying no in general." He clapped him on the back. "You're too easy."

"Ain't that the truth." Max sighed. "So, what do you need my services for?" He leveled his gaze at Gilbert. "Are those the same services I provided for Eric and Darlene?"

"Close, but not the same. I want to ask Negal to help Karen and me the same way you helped my brother and his mate, and I think it will be good if he hears what's involved from you."

Gilbert had been worried that Max would be offended that he hadn't asked him to be the initiator, but if anything, the guy looked relieved. "Sure. I'll talk to him. Where is he?"

"Negal is in a meeting with the other two gods in Aru's cabin. I suggest we get up there and wait outside to trap him before he leaves to do something else."

Max nodded. "He and the other two are coming to the training. We can talk in the bar until the practice starts."

"Don't you think us cornering him by the door would be perceived as creepy?" Eric stuffed his hands in his pockets. "It might be off-putting for him."

"Which part?" Max cocked a brow. "The asking him to bite Karen while she and Gilbert are hot and sweaty, or the lurking outside the door, waiting for him to emerge?"

"I meant the second one, but you are right. The whole thing is creepy."

Negal

"Target practice is in an hour." Aru pushed to his feet. "We should grab something to eat first."

"Dining hall?" Negal glanced at Dagor.

"I'm going to check with Frankie. If she didn't eat yet, I'll meet you down there." He walked over to the door and opened it. "Hello, are you waiting for me?"

Negal and Aru exchanged looks. It couldn't be Gabi because Dagor wouldn't have sounded surprised or asked if whoever was out there was waiting for him.

Out of habit, Negal inhaled, sensing three immortal males out in the corridor.

"We are actually waiting for Negal," one of them said. "Is he coming out?"

Dagor moved aside, giving Negal and Aru an unobstructed view of the newcomers.

Negal recognized Max, who had headed the Guardians who'd joined the tour of the ruins. He'd fought alongside him untilFrankie was shot. Then Negal had figured that she and Dagor needed someone to protect them on the way back to the ship, and he'd been the closest, so he'd jumped into the truck, but in the few moments that Max had seen him in action, the guy had seemed impressed.

Perhaps the Guardian wanted to ask about Negal's enhanced strength?

The other guy was Gabi's brother, Gilbert, and the one standing next to him was Eric, the middle brother.

"Hello, Max." He offered the Guardian his hand. "It's good to see you again." He turned to Gilbert. "Good to see you too, Gilbert, Eric."

Aru stepped out and frowned at Gilbert. "What's wrong? Is Gabi okay?"

"Gabi is fine. We need Negal for a few minutes, if you don't mind."

"What for?" Aru asked.

"It's a private matter," Gilbert said.

What could they possibly want from him? Did they have a relative they wanted to introduce him to?

Negal was enjoying his popularity among the clan ladies, and he had no wish to limit himself to just one.
