"I get it. You don't want me to slow you down. But maybe I can join you after my transition is complete and I'm back on my feet? I could fly out and meet you somewhere. I'm sure there are airports in Tibet."

"Not where we are going."

Dagor

Dagor hated the uncertainty of their situation, and he hated putting Frankie in a position where she was planning to give up her dreams to be with him.

"Let's not talk about it now, okay? It can wait until your transition starts."

Her brow furrowed, and she assumed the stubborn expression he dreaded and loved at the same time.

On the one hand, it meant that Frankie was going to argue until she won, and he would have to accept things he didn't want to, but on the other hand, he loved her confidence and her ability to stick to her guns.

"We don't have the luxury of time." She huffed out a breath. "Besides, you are the one who needs everything planned out."

She'd got him there, but how could he make plans when it wasn't clear whether or not she could turn immortal?

What if she couldn't, though?

What if she remained human?

He was in love with Frankie. He couldn't just forget her because her lifespan was so short. It was better not to think about it just yet. Why worry about something that might not happen?

"I wish I could make a plan, but everything depends on you turning immortal."

Frankie narrowed her eyes at him. "So, what are you saying, that you will just leave me if I don't transition?"

"That's not what I'm saying at all. What I meant was that we can't plan for the future without knowing the outcome of your induction. Plans that will fit Frankie the immortal will not fit Frankie the human."

Deflating, she sank into the chair. "Yeah. The same things are going round on a loop in my head. Perhaps we can make two plans, one for each outcome."

That was actually not a bad idea.

"What happens with your job offer if you don't transition?"

"They erase my memories of gods and immortals, which will probably include this cruise and you." She winced. "Toven says that he's very good at that, and he can leave some of the memories and just change a few details. Maybe I would remember meeting you and falling in love, but not the fact that you are a god."

He nodded. "I get that part, but what about the job? Will they find you something else to do that is not in their village, or will they just leave you to find something else on your own?"

"I guess Toven can get me a job in one of the Perfect Match studios. Why?"

He smiled and reached for her hand. "If I know where you will be working, I can find you there, and even if they erase me from your memories, I can make you fall in love with me all over again."

Her eyes softened. "And then what? You will pretend to be human?"

"Yes. Hopefully, we will find the missing pods, so I will be free to spend time with you."

"For how long?" she whispered. "You're not going to age, and you can't keep thralling me every day to not notice that you look exactly the same years later."

"Thralling is not my only option. I can also shroud, but you are right. If I don't tell you the truth about me, I will have to thrall you every time we are intimate, and that means daily. I can't do that. You'll need to know who and what I am and accept me all over again."

"I'm sure I will, but I don't want you to suffer, and you will suffer if you have to watch me get old and die."

Dagor lifted his glass and emptied what was left down his throat. "It's my choice to make. The only choice you have is to either love me back or not. And don't think for even a moment about pretending to not want me just to save me heartache in the future."

She chuckled. "Am I that transparent?"

"To me, you are. You have a noble heart beating in your chest, and you think of the well-being of others before you think of your own."
