Dagor had no doubt that Frankie was on her way to becoming immortal, and he finally let the floodgates of his love open and fill his heart to bursting. He felt so buoyant that he expected to start floating above the seat.

His hands trembled as he typed back.Thank the merciful Fates, my prayers have been answered. I love you so much.

Frankie

Frankie lifted the back of the hospital bed to a sitting position. "Are you sure you need me here?" she asked Bridget. "I'm perfectly fine."

Well, she was fine except for the nausea, the dizziness, the elevated blood pressure, the faster-than-usual heartbeat, and the mild fever. But she didn't feel faint, and she didn't expect to lose consciousness.

"You're doing well now," Bridget said. "But that can change rapidly, and you have no one to watch over you in your cabin. If you slip into a coma, no one will know."

"I can watch over Frankie," Mia offered without much conviction in her tone.

"That's okay." Frankie gave her a thankful smile. "I'll just wait for Dagor to return. He can watch over me."

Bridget shook her head. "I prefer that you stay in the clinic where I can monitor your vitals even if I'm not here. I can see the readouts from the blood pressure and heart monitors on my tablet while I'm doing other things."

"Look on the bright side," Mia said. "At least you're not hooked up to a catheter and an IV. You can use the bathroom and drink coffee." She cast a sidelong glance at Bridget. "She can drink coffee, right?"

"Water is always better, but a few sips of coffee won't kill you." The doctor winked at Frankie.

"Ugh, Bridget. Is that what doctors consider a joke?"

Bridget shrugged. "A bit too morbid for you?"

"Yeah." Frankie rolled her eyes. "I'm transitioning, and I might die."

Mia gasped. "Fates forbid, Frankie. Don't talk like that."

Bridget smiled. "You'll be fine. Thanks to Dagor's venom, you are doing better than most transitioning Dormants. I was worried because of your fainting spells, but it must have been something that the venom cured as well."

It was a combination of venom and blood.

"I'm so lucky," Frankie murmured. "I didn't think it would happen to me."

Mia reached for her hand and clasped it. "I was sure of it. It wasn't a coincidence that the Fates brought you and Dagor here so you could meet."

Frankie chuckled. "Does Toven have a third nickname that starts with an F and ends with an E? Because he's the one who made it happen."

"Kian had something to do with it as well," Bridget said. "The Fates don't work in a void. They move chess pieces to arrange the board for the game they have in mind."

A knock on the door had Frankie's heartbeat spike, and the monitor beeped a warning before the door opened, and Dagor rushed in, looking like he'd just showered with his clothes on and didn't bother to dry off.

"You're awake," he whispered. "I was afraid that by the time I got here, you would be unconscious."

A smile spread over her face. "You've been texting me every fifteen minutes to ask if I was still awake. I answered the last text about ten minutes ago."

He smiled sheepishly. "I didn't want to push my luck."

Bridget patted Dagor's wet shoulder. "We will leave you two alone." She motioned with her head for Mia to follow.

"I'll see you later." Mia gave her hand a little squeeze before letting go.

When the door closed behind them, Dagor walked over to the bed and took her hand. "I want to kiss you, but I don't want to drip water all over you."

As it was, he was making a puddle on the floor.

"What did you do? Swim to the ship?"
