“Meh, it just money. Hell, she burns more than that in a single trip she goes on.”

“Still not enough to give someone she hasn’t met as a gift.”

Ella moved away from the wall and put her hands on her waist. “Can you just stop, please. It makes her happy to give people gifts. She loves picking out things, and then loves watching people’s reactions to the gifts she gives.”

“I am sorry, girl, but I am not going to accept that, not now, not today, not ever.”

“Just this once. Mom really doesn’t like it when someone rejects her gifts, hell nobody ever rejects her gifts.”

I sniffled and shrugged as I folded my arms, “Well, there’s always that one day.”

She groaned, “You are the most stubborn person that I have known in my entire life.”

“I will take that as a compliment.”

Ella sighed and moved close to me, smiling. “You know it would look so stunning if you wore it with that yellow dress we chose for you?”

I smirked and looked away. “I bet it will be a suiting cover for the Imposter of the Year album.”

“Damn.” Ella groaned as she turned away from me while using her hands to wipe her face, and immediately the door sprung open, and Mason walked inside, his left hand in his pocket as he glared at me and his sister.

“Can’t you fucking knock, you dickhead?’ Ella groaned, obviously back to her formal self after seeing her overbearing brother open the door and begin to walk into the room as if he was forced to address lesser beings.

Mason ignored her, walked toward me and looked at the laptop and frowned. “Leave us.”

I swallowed a lump, turned, and began to head toward the door.

“Not you.” Came the swift reply, which had me stopping in my tracks.

Mason turned and looked at his sister. “I was talking to you.”

“I know, and if you think I am going to leave my dear friend alone with you, then you are more insane than I thought.”

He gave a disdainful huff and looked at the cuff links on his suit jacket, “That wasn’t a request.”

“Now he’s ordering me.” Ella groaned as she stretched out her hand and turned toward me.

“Ella,” I muttered as I walked toward her and touched her arm gently. “It’s okay.”

Still furious, she turned toward her brother and made to speak, but I touched her again and added. “I can take care of myself.”

Ella turned to me and smiled. “Of course, I know you will, but I will be outside, and just in case he upsets you, just shout my name.”

I smiled wearily and nodded, “Of course.”

Patting my arm softy, Ella turned and began to leave the room, but not before shoving her shoulder with her brother, who raised his head, took a deep breath, and raised it down. “My sister never stops finding new ways to frustrate the living daylight out of me.”

“She says the same about you all the time. I think you both are cut from the same cloth, just different ages and sexes.”

He laughed and began to walk around the room, moving his gaze around as if looking for something.

His silence and gaze were upsetting, and he didn’t care to be subtle about them either.

“What’s this about? Is there anything you want me to help you with?” I folded my arms. “This is an invasion of privacy, and I guess you know that too.”

He scoffed and moved toward the table, took a curious look at it, and began to touch and move through my stuff, “This is my home, my city. I am the law around here.”

“Okay, well, good for you,” I said in a very annoyed tone.
