“First,” I began, taking a quick breath, “she told me she left because she hated what happened and believed it betrayed your trust.”

Ella scoffed and shook her head. “Bet she didn’t care about that when she was sleeping with you.”

I muttered a curse and covered my face, unsure how to react. After a while, I raised my gaze to hers again. “You know what, I think there’s no reason to go any further with you on this.”

“Oh really, afraid to accept your guilt?” She asked, looking at me. “Afraid to admit you were fucking my best friend behind my back, probably to spite me?”

“It just happened once, for fucks sake.” I shouted as I spread my hands wild, “Just once, and I am going to be persecuted for that all my freaking life.”

“You want to make me believe you only fucked her once.”

“Yes, once, but I need to find her. I don’t want her to make any rash decisions about the baby, that would make me live with guilt for the rest of my life.”

“Wait, what do you mean rash decisions?”

I frowned and turned to her, “I know Lucy was very upset, and wanted some time to think about what she was going to do about the pregnancy.”

“You know what would solve this problem, Mason? You not sleeping with her in the first place!” Ella stood up and raised her voice at me.

I sighed heavily and rolled my eyes. “Ella, we are way past that rationale now. Come on. This is about the baby right now, and Lucy, making sure she is safe.”

Ella rolled her eyes at me now and laughed. “Sure, Mason. Mr. Mason Blackwood himself, suddenly has a heart and cares for someone other than himself.”

“Oh great.” I sighed and wiped my face, “You know what, right now, I don’t care about what you think about either Lucy or me, I just want to let you know she’s missing, and I don’t have a clue about where the fuck she is.” I was telling the truth. I didn’t care what Ella, or anyone thought about Lucy and me, nor did I regret it happening.

Ella’s frown deepened as she turned away from me and sat on a chair. “Why do I care where she is when she betrayed me to this extent?”

“Maybe because she’s pregnant.”

“With your child.” She countered, “How is this my problem?”

“Because that child will be your nephew or niece. At least, that should count for something.”

Ella didn’t answer. Instead, she kept looking at her fingers.

After a while, I ran my hand through my hair, “I have searched your home and her parents’, but she isn’t there. Do you know where else she may be?”

She continued to stay quiet, frustrating me further.

“So, you aren’t going to talk? Well.” I turned and began to head towards the door, “Just in case I finally see her, I will tell her you sent your regards.”

With that said, I headed out of the room.

I closed the door and paused for a moment hoping she would call me back, but instead, what I heard were her cries. “Great, just fucking great.”

I turned and began to head toward the hallway when one of my staff ran toward me.

“Sir, there is someone looking for you at the gate.”

“Who’s that?”

“He said it’s Phil, the new Minister for Foreign Affairs.”

I frowned and wiped my jaw. “Is he still there?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Send him in.”
