He nodded and sighed. “I know, but I have this odd feeling in my gut about leaving you alone today.”

Becky knew Carter’s gut was a real thing, and she had learned to listen as much as he did to it. She nodded. “Okay.”

“Daddy. Okay, Daddy.”

“You’re kind of needy today, my Teddy Bear. And bossy.” Carter raised his eyebrow again. “Fine. Just for you, Daddy. Ow! Not at work, Carter,” she hissed as she resisted rubbing the sting off her butt.

“At work, in the grocery store, at the house. You cop an attitude with me, and I’ll pop that little butt.”

Becky shifted in place. Her arousal was making her slick and her core heat up. She murmured as she walked away about her not-so-little butt.

“That’s ten. There is nothing bad to be said about my Baby Bear.”

She loved it when he used endearments with her as he often did. Baby Bear was his most loved name for her, and since she assured others that he was a teddy bear when they commented on his size, she naturally became Baby Bear.

“I have to pick up Levi and head out. I can’t assume how long I’ll be, but of course, I can't be positive that I’ll be home tonight. I’ll make sure to let you know when I know.” He reached his hand out to caress her face. “I love you with all that I am.”

She gave him a half smile. “I know.”

Carter leaned down and cuddled her before kissing long enough to make her feel the slightest bit dizzy. He was the best kisser. It was foreplay and aftercare in one. Every. Damn. Time. Becky watched as he grabbed his kit from the back seat, opening it, and doing a quick mental inventory before he kissed her quickly and nudged her toward the office entrance.

Carter went on overnight jobs with some regularity. Becky sometimes liked solitude and tried to imagine life alone, without Carter, without her Daddy. She couldn’t. She didn’t want to live without him. Maybe he had a genetic or hereditary thing that made him afraid to have children. They could adopt. She shook her head as she watched from inside the building’s front doors as Carter left the parking lot. She was grasping at straws and that wasn’t a good idea. Too many wrong conclusions happened when one did that.

This issue was something to ponder another day because it was time to grab a quick lunch before going back to work. Carter was going to be gone for hours and she would likely have to have not only lunch but dinner and maybe even breakfast alone. Her bottom cheeks clenched as she walked over to her car and climbed in. She had just enough time to grab enough lunch to have it for dinner too.

If she hurried, and settled for curry, she could get there and back before it was time to work, and if there was one thing Rebecca Shea Carrington always did, it was to show up on time. She might not see her boss Jac for most of the day, or sometimes not at all, but she was where he needed her to be, and that was often in the office.

While she waited for her double order, she got a text from Carter.

Carter: “What are you having for lunch?”

Becky: “Curry. Should I order enough for dinner?”

Carter: “For one. I’ll grab something on my way home. Sorry, Baby Bear.”

Becky: “Okay. Hey, my order is here.”

Carter: “Well, you better go and get it then. And enjoy it because it cost you ten swats.”

Becky: “What?”

Carter: “Look at the drive-thru.”

She leaned over to look out of the window. Busted. What could she say? Nothing.

Becky: “Sorry, Daddy.”

Carter: “Too late for that. I’ve caught you. Hope it’s great curry. Now get your lunch and get right back to work. Don’t stay late and have the front desk security walk you to your car tonight. And before you say anything,” Becky imagined his voice growing deeper, “Don’t forget you have twenty on the books already.”

Shoot.

Becky: “Yes, Daddy. Stay safe.”

Carter: “I will baby, see you at least for breakfast.” Her belly flipped and she needed fresh panties. Maybe she should do what Sharlee did and keep a few pairs at the office.

When Becky drove into the underground parking garage, Jac was leaning against the elevator wall, arms crossed over his chest. He was a nice-looking man, but Becky only had eyes for one man, and it looked like that man had called her boss to meet her. Jac smiled when she pulled in.

Walking to the driver’s side of the car, he opened the door for her when she turned off the vehicle.
