“Looks like it, Becky. Thank you.”

“I don’t anticipate keeping you long,” said Ramirez.

Jac nodded. “Tell them I’ll be late.”

“Right, sir.” Becky left, went straight to the reception desk, and had them call the available Team One members while she called Carter. After a brief explanation, she headed to the tech room.

“Good call, baby. That Ramirez is a slimy dude,” said Carter as he pulled her in for a quick kiss. “Now, let’s get you on your way home and we’ll stay to get some strategy going here.”

“No way. I’m staying.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and Carter worked hard to suppress his smile. He was almost successful. His girl was showing her naughty side and that was unusual and adorable.

Kaden pulled up Sharlee on the monitors. “Got your ears on?”

“Yep. I’ll pipe it through.”

Monroe said, “Carter, Garrett, and I will stroll down to Jac’s office.”

“I can go back and say I forgot something.”

Carter turned into her and blocked her way to the exit. “No. You can stay, but you must stay here.” He leaned down and spoke next to her ear. “Don’t make me Daddy you in front of everyone.”

The look she gave him was disbelief. Their dynamic was private. The lifted eyebrow and nod of his head said,Believe it. Unfortunately, her sassy self was having a hard time processing his message.

“I’m good, Carter. It’s my job to back up Jac when he needs it. I have an excuse to knock on his door.”

Carter’s face grew hard as he leaned down, speaking low again so only she could hear. “If you want a hot ass for days, you will disobey me. I meant what I said. Do not leave this office unless it’s with another member of our team or they will all know what it looks like when your Daddy shows up at work.”

She looked up in the face of the man she hated to love sometimes and nodded.

“Let me hear it, Baby Bear.”

She loved it when he called her that. Her knees always became weak, and he knew as well as she did that whatever he asked, she would do. “But Jac...”

“Is in good hands. You did your job. Now let us do ours. Say it.”

Becky sighed. “Yes, sir.”

Carter gave her a slight smile, nodded, and kissed her lips, which still showed her dissatisfaction with the situation. He whispered in her ear. “No pouting, baby. Daddy will be back to take you home.” She nodded and watched the men leave.

Kaden and Becky watched on the monitors as Carter, Garrett, and Monroe entered Becky’s office. Carter and Monroe sat in the outer waiting room with the two goons. Garrett, bold as only an original partner could be, knocked and then entered Jac’s office, closing the door behind him.

The other monitor showed him being introduced to the man in Jac’s office and Garrett sitting instead of leaving because Jac had a meeting in progress. Jac nodded at his visitor, but they didn’t shake hands. The meeting ended quickly after that.

Jac opened his safe, pulled out the guns, and held them until he escorted the group out the door. Once Jac had accompanied the three men out of the building, careful not to acknowledge two of his men keeping company behind Ramirez’s security, he handed over their weapons. Stepping back behind the bulletproof doors he watched them close before signaling to security who electronically locked them. Then more cameras inside and out came online, triggered by the locks. Then all four men walked to the tech room.

“I figured this is where you would all be. You there, Charlotte?”

“Yes, I’m here. I was able to record most of your meeting. Kaden monitored the outer office too.”

Jac nodded. “Good.”

Becky asked, “Who was that?”

Jac sighed. “That, my dear, is a long story I won’t tell without whiskey.”

“Come home, and I’ll have the good stuff ready,” said Sharlee.
