“You ready?” he asks me, ignoring the disappointed noise of the fans who haven’t had a turn with him. I grab my coffee and nod.

“Stupid bitch,” the young woman mutters under her breath.

Gabe hears, turning to glare. “Don’t put other women down. It’s disgusting.”

Her eyes are on fire as she stares at me. “Tell that to her.”

I turn away because she’s not worth my time. I get this shit like a firehose on social media and maybe I’m not as immune to it as I want to be, but I have learned to at least act like I give zero fucks. Mostly because it’s the best way to piss off the haters.

Gabe hasn’t learned that lesson, I guess.

“Editors leave a lot of footage on the floor to tell the story they want to tell,” he says in a calm, deep voice.

The twenty-something’s smile falters and it’s clear she’s failing to find a way through this that will get her what she wants.

“Don’t believe everything you see on TV,” he adds, tugging me away. “Let’s go, baby.”

We head toward the door and I can’t resist shooting her a smug little smile over my shoulder.

“I saw that,” Gabe murmurs as we step into the sunshine.

“Sue me.”

We get back to the room and he reheats his coffee in the microwave, eating his cold sandwich while he waits. Since it might be my last chance in person, I admire the tight fit of his T-shirt and the way his jeans make his ass look so delectable. I’m going to miss fake dating him for the view alone.

“How do you want to do this?” I ask, slumping into a chair.

“Do what?” He pulls his coffee out and turns to lean against the counter as he blows the steam off his drink.

“Our break up. I booked a flight for this afternoon. I can get a ride to the airport. Do you want me to say anything on social media, or should we let our agents handle it?”

“Are you fake breaking up with me?” he asks, incredulous.

“No, you’re fake breaking up with me.”

His frown deepens. “Why?”

“Are you serious?” I snap. My eyes burn. I’ve done and said enough in front of this man. I’m not crying again. Not over this. “I’m the worst. I tried to seduce my cousin’s husband on their wedding night and used you as a decoy without a single concern about you. How can you stand to be in this room with me?”

Understanding crosses his face and he sits down across from me. “Do you love him?”

I ball up my fist and press it to my mouth. All I can do is nod and wipe away the tear that falls five seconds later. I don’t know if I love Nic. My feelings for him haven’t changed, but they’re smaller than they were. Like something I’ve outgrown. My stupid heart is still clinging to the idea of him, though, unable to let go.

Gabe reaches for my other hand and takes it in his. “We both still need each other, and yesterday worked really well. As long as it’s not public knowledge, I don’t think we need to end this yet.”

“You’re kidding.” He can’t be this much of a saint. “I tried to break up a marriage. I’m not a good person and I can’t be better.”

He rolls his eyes and releases my hand. “You aren’t as bad as you think you are.”

“You couldn’t even stand to be in the room with me last night.”

“I needed to think about it. You seemed upset, and I thought you might want some space.”

My eye twitches. “Seriously?”

He shrugs. “People do extreme things for love. And I think you regret it.”

“You’d be wrong.” I snap, but I do regret it.
