He pokes Ashley in the arm and she hisses at him.

“I know what you’re up to,” he hisses right back. “The moment you sent your assistant asking—”

“Youpointed her athim?” she asks, slamming her phone onto the table.

I’m not trying to listen in, but Timothy’s voice carries and it’s obvious I’m the “him” in this conversation.

Timothy glances at me, mouthing a “sorry” before turning back to Ashley. “If you ever, ever try this shit again—”

“It’s over,” she snaps back. “I’m done.”

“You don’t know how to be done or you would’ve been done years ago.” His voice drops until I can’t hear what he’s saying, but her eyes almost tear up before she snaps her spine straight and pushes him away.

“Get off me, you drunken dickwad.”

“You,” he says pointedly, getting to his feet, “need to grow up.”

“Real inspiring from the man who unleashed a herd of goats at his sister’s wedding reception,” Ashley says, eyes on her phone, without missing a beat.

“Out of love,” he says, winking at me when he catches me watching them.

“Same,” she mumbles, but Timothy’s lost interest in her. He gets up and dumps himself into a chair across the table from me.

“I’m sorry my cousin is…well.” He blows a strand of hair off his forehead. “An Ashhole.”

Under the table, I clench my hands into fists and release them, trying to work off some tension. “She made a mistake.” I’d threatened her with a restraining order, but whatever role I played tonight in Ashley’s scheme, I don’t think it’s something I have to worry about repeating.

I despise you.

I’m not exactly her biggest fan either.

“You’re leaving in the morning?” Timothy asks, a wide grin spreading across his face. “You sure you don’t want to stay another day and let me drive that sweet car of yours?”

I’ve been following Nic around, and everywhere Nic goes, Timothy goes. He’s been after me the whole time about driving my car.

No way am I letting the ex-stunt performer drive my 1969 Camaro.

“All right.” Celia’s off her phone now, glancing between me and Ashley, a furrow in her brow as David hurries over and takes a seat beside me. “I talked to your agents—”

Our agents?

That’s why I went to voice mail?

Ashley’s jaw drops. “You can’t—”

Celia whirls on her. “Oh, I can. I’m not any happier than you to have to clean up your mess at my daughter’s wedding, so don’t start with me.” They stare at each other for a long minute before Ashley looks at her drink and Celia’s eyes swing my way.

She notices Timothy and rests her hands on her hips. “What are you doing here?”

He shrugs. “Following the chaos.”

She jerks a thumb over her shoulder in the direction of the door. “Out.”

He stands up, mimes driving at me, and mouthscall me.

When the door closes, Celia sighs. “I’ve spoken with your people and we’ve all agreed the best course of action, for everyone, is to let slip that you two are dating.”

“Absolutely not,” I say over Ashley’sno fucking way.
