“You can sit with me a bit later if you remember.”

If Jari remembered. Like he’d forget Aurelius.

One of the sailors had a bunch of books in a small trunk in his cabin. He let Jari pick a few to bring to Aurelius who had fallen asleep again. Jari wanted to get back into bed with him, but maybe it was good if they had a break. He kind of hated it only because Aurelius surely thought of himself as a pest that Jari was sick and tired of. He wasn’t.

He was also right because if they had a place of their own later and were living together, they still couldn’t be attached at the hip all day long.

Jari spent a couple of minutes watching Este and Tenth do exercises on the deck that involved a lot of kicking, bending over backward, and twisting themselves into unnatural shapes. Jari was sure he pulled a muscle just from watching them bend over backward. Tenth wasn’t quite as flexible but he tried.

Este said that everyone in Mother’s company had to be flexible and strong because a lot of the shows and dances required complicated moves, leaps, and the ability to move likewater. Stiff muscles didn’t make a good dancer. Tenth probably kept flexible to wow certain customers in bed not that Jari was going to ask.

One of the sailors showed Jari the crow’s nest. He had to go up the ladder along the mainmast because he wasn’t about to attempt the rigging. The sailor called him a landlubber, and Jari didn’t bother denying it.

He spent a little time in the room with Aurelius that afternoon and had dinner with the others before the sun went down. Este had gotten a chessboard from someone in the crew, and she challenged Jari to a couple of games. She won both.

When he came in for the night, Aurelius had the covers drawn up to his neck. “Are you staying now?”

“Yeah.”

“Good. There’s fresh water in the basin, so wash up, do a good job, and then you can get in bed with me.”

Chapter Thirteen

Jari had nearly finished with a small drying sheet when Aurelius said his name, so he looked around the curtain.

“Don’t bother getting dressed.” The Prince had pushed off the blanket, and he patted the bed next to him. More interesting than the empty space was his body without a stitch covering it.

“You’re naked,” Jari stated like that wasn’t obvious.

“I’m aware.” Aurelius lay back and drew up a leg. “Don’t keep your Prince waiting.”

Jari tossed down the drying sheet and came over. The bed was a bit narrow for two people, but he’d managed not to jostle or kick Aurelius the night before. Once he was on his side, the Prince turned to him and fingered the scar on his thigh.

“You didn’t tell me how you got that.”

“It was bandits,” said Jari. The muscle in Aurelius’s cheek was twitching, and his face was blank. He either wanted to say or do something, but probing would probably make him shut down. “A couple attacked me, and the last one to survive went low, I didn’t block him or move fast enough, and he got my leg. I killed him, and I was quite a distance from the nearest village. They didn’t have anyone who could heal, so I had to bandage it and make do.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It wasn’t a big deal. It slowed me down, but it wasn’t so deep that I was in serious danger. I didn’t push myself too hard, and it got better.” By the time he got to a place with a healer, it was hardly worth bothering with, and it didn’t take that long before a scar would be permanent.

“Does it hurt now?”

“No.”

Aurelius palmed his hip while his gaze scraped down Jari’s body. It was hard to miss his cock which was half-hard. Even though his face was blank, he couldn’t have been having entirely pure thoughts.

“No. If I wanted to do something more, would you let me?”

“Yes.” Did he mean they’d fuck? Or the usual with a little something extra added?

“I want you to choose something.” Aurelius leaned in. “My dagger or the chains.”

Oh, shit. “Are you going to suck my cock while I can’t touch you? You threatened to tie me down, and you never followed through.”

“No.” Aurelius kept his gaze on Jari’s face. “I want to fuck you.”

The simple yet dirty words had an interesting effect on Jari’s nether regions. “What are you going to do with the dagger if I pick that? I’d like more than a few seconds with it, unlike last time.”
