Killian presses the gun to Ethan's temple with a growl. "She's mine. If you go near her again, I'll shoot you on the spot," he warns. "The only reason I don't splatter your brains all over your pathetic excuse of a car right now is because she called you, and you didn't know. "

He pushes the tip of the gun off his head, causing Ethan to fumble backward, and tucks it behind the back of his pants. He turns around, walks to the front passenger side, and opens the door, but Ethan walks closer.

Killian points at him. "I'm warning you, you little fucking troll." Ethan places his hands up in mock surrender.

"Come here, Lillith," Killian demands, his voice laced with steel.

I walk over because what choice do I have? He will pick me up and toss me inside the car, and who knows what he will do with me.

"I'm sorry, Ethan."

I'm surprised Blair wasn’t riding with him. She was already getting handsy with him at the arena.

When I slide inside the car, I remember to pull the strap and buckle myself in.

"Why did you do that? You didn't have to threaten to end his life like he was some sort of animal."

He shuts the door and turns the key to fire up the car. I see his hands on the top of the steering wheel, gripping it until his knuckles turn white. "Who is he to you?"

My tongue slides over my bottom lip, not knowing how to answer him without pissing him off further. How do I tell him that in a fit of jealousy, I ran away and called a friend to pick me up? The friend I lost my virginity to. A friend I've slept with more than once.

It looks bad, but I had no intention of ever sleeping with Ethan again now that I'm married to Killian. My circumstances are not what I envisioned in a marriage, but I'm wearing his ring. Trying not to make matters worse, afraid that he would kill Ethan, I decide to go the safer route. Telling the truth but not the whole truth unless he asks specifically.

"He worked for my father at the house."

He pulls out on the road, and I notice from the side mirrors that Ciro follows us. "Did you fuck him?"

I squeeze my fingers between my thighs and close my eyes. "Yes," I croak. "It was before you."

He laughs sarcastically. "So you disappeared and left with a man you used to fuck. Tell me why I shouldn’t turn this car around and blow his fucking brains all over the place."

"The same way I don't use your gun and blow Blair and her little sidekick's brains all over the place," I quip. "Let's have at it. Let's turn around and line them up execution style. One for fucking me and the two for fucking my husband–which I might add I have seen with my own eyes. To top it off, she had her hands all over you at the arena, and you told her that you would meet her after for a late-night quickie while your wife was sitting right there." I raise my voice on the last part.

His head snaps to glance at me briefly. "I didn't agree to shit."

"Oh yes, you did." I laugh on a breath. "On the boat, you said yeah. She asked, and you agreed in front of my face because, in her eyes, you guys are tight and shit."

"I was distracted, and I'm sorry if you thought that. On the track, I thought it was you. I—"

He did?

I think about the conversation on the boat and know Blair is trying to hang on to what they had before. He was looking at the screen and probably wasn't paying attention to what was said. I didn't stay long enough at the arena to gauge his reaction.

"Look, I know I shouldn’t have left like that. It was dangerous, and I wasn't thinking. Nothing is going on between Ethan and me. We are just friends. He was the only person I could talk to."

"I see that," he snaps.

He's pissed. The same way I was with Blair. Good, now he knows how it feels. It's not like he's made an effort to apologize, but I'm not like him.

"I'm sorry for leaving like that."

"Don't do it again. If you need to ask me something, then ask. If a woman tries to insinuate something, tell me. I'll let you know."

Yeah, but that isn't good enough. You didn't say you wouldn't. Only if you would.

Turning up the volume of Depeche Mode’s "It's No Good," he shifts the car hard, pressing the gas.

Our conversation must be over.
