"That's enough, Blair," Ciro says, scolding her like a child.

She glares at him but curls her lip. "I'm just telling her like it is, Ciro. Don't lie to her. She already thinks she's above us."

"I said that's enough," he barks.

She smiles, shaking her head. She is so bitter, and I get the feeling the next words out of her mouth will make matters even worse. "Aw, Ciro. Why don’t you tell her the truth? It's obvious why you defend her so much."

The guys they brought to help out pause but look away.

I look back and forth between Sydney and Sarah to gauge their expressions. There is something I don't know about Ciro.

My eyes finally land on him. I watch as he flinches from her words, and my heart breaks for him. "You've always wanted to be like Kill. To live like Kill. Think like Kill. You're his best friend, but shit, you can't even hide it. He's warned you, but you just can't help yourself. You always want what you can't have. Ever since you laid eyes on her, you're dying to fuck her. You watch her. You follow her. You're waiting until she catches us fucking so you can make your move and not feel guilty about it."

"Stop it," I warn.

"Don't worry. Once he slips his cock in you, you'll get bored. Just like the last girl he had. He caught her fucking Kill with me and her friend."

I see the anguish in his eyes. His eyes darken in pain. "Stop it," I repeat. But she keeps going.

"We told him, but like always, Ciro doesn't listen. Kill can do no wrong, but he finally found something he wants more than anything." She lowers her voice. "To fuck you because he's in love with you, and he knows Kill could never love you."

I walk across the boat, and her eyes widen. I pull my hand back and slap her. "Shut up!"

Her hand flies to her face in shock. She lunges after me, but Ciro steps in front of me and holds her hands, keeping her from reaching me. "You stupid bitch. How dare you! You can give him a kid, but he will always come back to me because I accept him how he is," she snarls.

No. She just wants him because of who he wants to become. I set my jaw and clench my teeth, seething in anger. "No, if Ciro was in Kill's position. You're the first one on your knees begging to be his number one bitch. It's the power you want. You're no different from the monsters who raised me on that fucking island."

"What the fuck?" Killian’s behind me, jumping on the boat.

I turn to look at him and shake my head. "Get your bitch on a leash. She needs to be locked up. Orgies are your thing, right? Better yet, why don't you go fuck her and whoever she brings along. You love to have her around so she can rub how you fuck everyone in my face, including her, since she's your number one choice. Because I know I'm not. I never was."

"What the fuck is going on?" Killian asks, looking at Blair.

"Tell her the truth," Blair demands, pulling away from Ciro's grasp.

"About what?” Killian asks in a sharp tone.

"Tell her you have no plans to love her in the true sense. Tell her what you told me."

It feels like a knife stabs me in the chest over and over. A hot and cold feeling slides up my spine, and I can't breathe. It hurts. He talks about me to her, but he never says anything about her to me.

Then I remember this morning. How he stopped me when I wanted to pleasure him. Maybe he felt guilty because he saw the way I looked at him. The way I said that he was perfect because I meant it.

"Tell me the truth, Killian. I would like to know so I understand my role in your life a little better. That way, we can air it all out. They can all hear it. What are your plans for me? They're dying to know."

"What do you want me to tell you, Lillith?" Killian asks in a tight voice.

"The truth. Don't string me along so I can be agreeable to you in bed. Tell me, is it true you fucked Ciro's girlfriend?"

I see his chest rising and falling faster and faster. His head turns to look at his best friend. "Yes," he chokes out. "It wasn't supposed to happen. I didn't think it was serious, and she told me they weren't together. It was a mistake, and he knows that. We're past all this."

"How about me?" I ask.

He gives a frustrated sigh. "We talked about this. You know why you are here, Lillith. Everyone knows what the plan is. I don't have time for love or some fairy tale. This is the real world. Look around. The last thing I think about is falling in love with anyone when people are suffering." He steps closer, and my throat feels like an invisible hand squeezes it. "Get it through that pretty head of yours. You may have been kept in a gilded cage for so long on a beautiful island that it has blinded you from what is really going on." He closes the remaining distance. "But it is the truth, and I'm sorry I can't be the man in your little fantasy world you read in a book."

Everyone is silent. All you can hear is the water crashing against the dock and the boat. I look away, my eyes staring at the boat that will take us back to the island, refusing to let the tears that have pooled on my lashes fall. "I understand," I say, my voice turning cold. "Please, take me back."

I’m in my bedroom, and since our talk at the dock, Lillith has avoided me. It's been two days, but I've left her alone. I know what I said was fucked up, but I couldn't take the tension between the people who have been helping me since my parents’ death and I arrived on the mainland looking for answers.
