"Sitting near my friend."

"I'm not…"

I quirk a brow. "I never took you for a liar, Elena. We're friends, remember?"

"It was you, wasn't it?"

"What are you talking about?"

"You changed my classes back."

"I did," I admit. "It was my way to tell you I was wrong, and I'm sorry."

"His eyes are black and blue.”

"Who's?"

"Don't play dumb, Santiago."

"It's Santi,' I correct. "And I did nothing," I lie. "I told him there was a slight misunderstanding, and you needed your old schedule back."

"Why? I was fine with the change."

"Well, I wasn't."

"Would you like to share something with the class, Miss Sincere?"

I point at the professor. "Call her out again, and I'll get you out of here. Do you understand me?"

A hush blankets the room. I watch in satisfaction as the professor's face turns beet red. He knows I will, and then I'll break his hands, burn his fucking eyes out and watch them melt.

"Santiago, are you crazy?" She whispers.

"It's about time you figured out that I am, Elena. I am crazy." I turn back to the professor and wave my hand. "Continue."

His mouth opens and closes like a fish. A redfish.

I stare at her for the rest of the class.

In math, I stare at her some more, not caring that people are giving me funny looks.

"Where are you going for lunch?" I ask her, trying to make eye contact.

"What? She asks, distracted.

"Lunch. Where are you going?"

"Where? She asks, writing in her journal I've been trying to steal from her. I want to read what she writes in there. The few times I've snuck into her room, it's always hidden, or she takes it with her, but she never leaves it lying around. I bet it holds all her inner thoughts. I bet there are things she has written about me.

I tried talking myself out ofborrowingit. I'll jerk off to it, along with the pictures I have of her on my phone wearing short skirts and bathing suits.

Elena is my go-to when I want to get off. I could never taint her with my fifth. Her innocence always holds me back, but now things are different. She doesn't want me. I pushed her too far. Her father has sworn me off her and hates me. If he only knew I was saving his little girl from a depraved monster like me.

He could threaten me all he wants. Kick me out of his house. Warn me off her.

It hurts to see that he thinks the worst of me. I want his approval. But as for Elena, no one can keep me from her. No. One.

Not even her.
