"Hey, Elena," Ezekiel greets me from the dining table.

I give him a kiss on the cheek. "How are you?"

''I’m good,'' Ezekiel says while I take a seat.

Ezekiel goes back to his homework. Santiago places my math book and bag on the table. I think of Maxim. The way he whispered that I was beautiful. Santiago never said I was beautiful. He never kissed me like Maxim did… he...

"…Elena? Elena?" Fingers snap in front of my face.

I look up. "Huh?"

"Where were you?" Santiago asks. "I've been calling your name, and you are staring at the wall.''

I look across at Ezekiel working on an assignment, giving me a knowing smirk.Shit.

I clear my throat. "I was thinking …" I trail off.

"Damn, ese," Ezekiel says on a chuckle. ''Leave her alone. . You've asked her like three times. It doesn’t look like she’s hungry.''

Santiago walks toward the kitchen. "Well… she needs to eat. A bagel and caramel latte is not enough."

My head whips around. "How did you know what I ate that this morning?"

Is he following me? Dread snakes up my spine.

"It's what you always eat for breakfast," Santiago says, suggesting that he knows everything about me.

He thinks he does, but he doesn't.

Ezekiel pops a chip in his mouth. "He has a point, Elena. I think we all know it's the bagel with raisins."

"You guys are so weird."

A cabinet door slams from the kitchen. "Why are we weird?" Santiago asks.

"It's not weird when we have spent our entire lives around each other.”

I hear the front door close. "What did I miss?" Xavier says, walking in with Niko.

"Elena says we are weird because we know what she eats for breakfast."

"Raisin bagel, light cream cheese, and a caramel latte," Niko says, sitting to my right."

“Even the Russian knows,” I tease.

The front door opens, and a guy from the football team walks in. His name is Scott. He's a sophomore with a wandering eye.

"What's up?"

I open my math book to finish the assignment to help Santiago and leave. I can deal with the guys, but not some of their friends, and Scott is one of them. He gives me the creeps.

He greets Ezekiel and Santiago. He turns holding out his hand. "Elena, right? I've seen you around."

Yeah, leering at my ass when the guys aren’t around.

"Yup," I say without looking up.

He laughs through his nose when I leave him hanging. He takes a seat to my left. The smell of spices floats from the kitchen, making my stomach growl.
