My mood improved as I listened to them both. They were always so grateful no matter what I prepared. Unless it was that curry dish I tried once, Bombay chicken. Alexis’s face had looked forlorn as she’d tried it. She wasn’t one to hold back her opinion, and neither was Clara, it seemed. She called the dish the “the hottest, yuckiest mess ever made.” Damon and I had both laughed at her words. Alexis enjoyed toast that night with Jell-O for dessert.

Over breakfast, the conversation with Alexis was now all about Riley and how he’d “missed her like he’d missed playing with his biggest train set.” Apparently, that was a lot because trains were Riley’s “big fun.” His big set lived at his grandfather’s place.

Damon and I exchanged smiles and glances as Alexis continued to talk about Riley. We were told all about his favorite and not-so-favorite things. It was gorgeous how they doted on one another. They were the same age and were both going to attend the same school when they finished kindergarten. It was picture perfect.

In fact, Clara had taken the back seat since Alexis had met Riley. Clara was a “stay-at-home ragdoll” when Alexis went to kindergarten. She still sat wherever Alexis did when she was home, but her opinions became less frequent as time went on. That was, unless there was a word corrected by Damon or me. If that was the case, then Clara had a lot to say via the words of the brilliant Alexis, of course.

“Okay, I’m off,” said Damon, grabbing his briefcase. He looked smart in his Armani suit. The gold shirt he wore underneath accentuated his beautiful, sparkling eyes.

“Bye, Dada. I’m gonna tell Riley about strawberry rainbow cream cheese.”

“Are you really?” he asked, giving her his best smile.

“Uh-huh!”

They hugged, and I got my usual perfect wink before he left like a rocket out the door.

I was happy I was staying in the penthouse with Damon and Alexis. What an absolute gentleman he’d been about the whole situation with jerk-off Keith. I couldn’t have been luckier, and it was a relief Keith had no idea what car I drove anymore. I’d sold the old one I’d had as soon as I’d broken it off with him.

This morning had renewed my feeling that everything was going to be all right. Damon was here for me, and that was all I needed as comfort given Keith’s recent display of anger. Today would be a good day, and everything in my life was going as planned. That jerk-off Keith would not be allowed to rain on my parade. I was going to be happy despite his stupid threats. Plus, I had two beautiful people who needed me, Alexis and Damon Jacobs. They were central in my life right now.

“Let’s get going. Riley will be waiting for you,” I said.

“Okay, but we need to curl my hair first! Clara doesn’t need it today, but I do.”

“All right. We’ve got six whole minutes.”

“Oh, but that’s my age!”

“I know.” I loved it when her face lit up like it had sunshine beaming out of it.

Chapter 17

Damon

We woke up around the same time. Karly looked perfect with her morning look. Her hair was swept over her face in a tangled mess. Her doe-like eyes were on my body.

She was in the bathroom brushing her hair. Her pajamas hugged her body like nobody’s business. All I wanted to do was take her to my room and fuck her like crazy. It’d been too long since the last time. And the last time we’d made out, I’d been so horny, I had thought my balls were going to explode.

“I’ll be one minute, and then you can have a shower,” she said, grabbing her toothbrush.

“Take your time. I’m up early enjoying the view,” I said, my cock hardening just from looking at her. “Those clouds are very beautiful,” I added, giving her a warm smile.

She bit her bottom lip at my flirtatious words. She was more than I could have hoped for in so many wonderful ways. Despite what that prick Keith had done, she was holding herself together extremely well. I’d already organized a cleaning company to fix her apartment. They would set it straight in no time at all. They actually specialized in ransacked apartment clean-ups, which had been a shock to me.

Breakfast was being prepared when I entered the dining room. I admired Karly cooking as I sipped my coffee and pretended to read the newspaper.

“Is she still staying, Dada?” asked Alexis, looking at me with excitement.

“Yes. Karly will be staying with us for a while.”

Her face brightened like it was its own ball of sunshine. Her words said it all. “Yaaay! Yippee!”

“Look at the bagels, Alexis,” said Karly, showing her the fresh batch she’d picked up at the store yesterday afternoon.
