“Mhm,” she moans, closing her eyes as I continue to swirl my finger around her clit.

“So fucking good,” I moan, my own words becoming a garbled mess now.

This time it only takes a few thrusts before she’s tightening around me. “Oh, shit, Liam, I’m …”

My teeth clench as her pussy squeezes around me again, this time making me unravel along with her. Pleasure erupts deep in my core, tightening every muscle in my body as I unload into the condom.

When my eyes open, my vision is blurry from the intensity of the climax. I’ve never felt anything even close to that. My legs are wobbly, and Zoey is hanging onto the edges of the shelving in front of her as if for dear life.

I slide out of her and dispose of the condom in a nearby trashcan.

With my pants still around my ankles, I lean against a wall for support, my chest heaving with exhausted breaths. “Holy fuck.”

“That was …”

“Yeah,” I finish after she can’t find the right word to follow up. There are no words to describe what that was.

I wish we could just stay here, relishing the afterglow, but we’re already pressing our luck way beyond what any sane person would.

“So, uhm, could I …” Zoey begins after I pull my pants back up and she straightens herself.

I chuckle. “Have your panties back?”

Her cheeks color a deep crimson, and she nods.

“Here you go,” I say, reaching into my back pocket. It’s the strangest kind of bittersweetness as she takes them from me, like this is the moment that the story of me and her is wrapped up in a neat bow and finished.

Once I make sure that the coast is clear, we slink out of the closet and go our separate ways.

If that had to be it, if that had to be the last time we ever touch each other, if that had to be the one chance we have to get each other out of our systems, we damn sure made it count.

I just hope it’s possible for Zoey to be out of my system, for both our sakes …

ZOEY

It’s Saturday morning, and I’m sitting on the couch in my living room. I don’t have the TV on, my laptop is closed on the desk on the other side of the room, and my phone is still on the bedside table in my bedroom.

The only thing commanding my attention are my memories of last night.

When I reach out to pick up the cup of tea that, in my mind, I’ve only just brewed, I realize from touch that I’ve been zoning out on the couch long enough for it to go lukewarm before I even took my first sip.

I sip on it anyway. Even lukewarm tea isn’t enough to bring me down from this high. It feels like I’m floating on a cloud, a fluffy white one, the only one in a clear, blue sky on a sunny day.

I’m in such high spirits that I’m not worrying whether the gambit of going one more round with Liam even worked—whether it actually did blow off the steam so that we can coexist around each other without wanting to rip each other’s clothes off.

Nope, I’m in too good of a mood even for self-doubt.

I’m sure it worked. The logic was just too foolproof.

I’m jostled back to reality when I feel a weight suddenly plop down on the other side of the couch.

“Alright, Zoey, spill it.”

I turn to Kayla, feeling like I just got snapped out of a dream by a buzzing alarm. “Huh?”

“Last night. What happened when you disappeared for, like, ten minutes?” She leans towards me from her side of the couch, putting on a no-nonsense look. “And don’t bullshit me.”
