Me: My phone died.
Sophie: How the hell can your phone die when you're in a foreign country with your boss? How are you working?
Me: It was already midnight. Plus, I was with said boss. Trust me, whatever work needed to be done was done.
Sophie: Oh God! You two did it again, didn't you?
I didn’t respond because it would just further enhance her mental spiral downward.
Sophie: Wow! Your silence says it all. Or are you no longer with your phone again? Like how does that even work?
Me: I need to shower and get ready to leave. We can talk when I get back.
Sophie: No, no, no! I have a lot of thoughts.
Me: Yes, you do, and I read them.
I giggled. She was too easy to get wound up.
Sophie: And you're not concerned? Jerald reached out to me again last night. He wanted to come over.
Me: And did you let him?
I already knew the answer because of course she did. There was no way she was going to be able to say no to him.
Sophie: Yes, I did.
Me: And…
Sophie: I don't know. He still doesn't seem to be in the right headspace.
Me: What exactly did he say?
Sophie: He wanted to know how I was faring, and he wanted to apologize.
Me: But he didn’t want to repair your relationship?
Sophie: He didn't allude to that.
Me: So basically, he wanted free sex because he's gone out into the world and seen that it's not as easy as he’d been getting it earlier.
She didn't respond, and I got up.
Sophie: You're quite abrasive and judgmental for someone sleeping with my boss not even three days into the job.
Me: We know what we are. So no crime is being committed against anyone. Your ex-fiancé, on the other hand…
Sophie: Just stop, I don’t want to get into it over text.
Me: Fine, I need to go anyway. There's too much to do in preparation to leave. Also, I need to contact the pilot.
Sophie: You have his details, right?
Me: Yeah, I do. I'll contact him now, as well as the flight attendant. They're usually on standby when he goes on trips like this, right?
Sophie: Always.
Me: Alright, talk later.
