As if conjured, my phone chimes with a text message.

I log off my mobile game and open the thread of unanswered messages.

The latest one is a shot of a whisky glass with a neon banner of the Babinski club in the back.

I could lick this off of your belly button

I roll my eyes and toss my phone back onto the bed.

This is why I did not want to get involved with anyone. People get attached. Alessandro is a prime example of that.

Since we spent the night together, he has sent me a total of nine texts, some a lot flirtier than he others and each text is a reminder on why I should have stayed away.

Every time he texts me, it only adds to my curiosity. Besides his name, I’m left in the dark about this enigmatic man.

He’s a clean slate, a mystery waiting to be uncovered. In a moment of pure spontaneity, I decide that maybe, just for tonight, I can indulge in the intrigue of the unknown.

Without overthinking, I type a simple text.

Where?

And to my surprise, his reply is almost instant.

I’m sending a car. Be ready in twenty

I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement and apprehension. What have I just signed up for, and where will this adventure lead me? For now, I’ll let my curiosity guide me, and with a sense of trepidation, I start getting ready for whatever Alessandro has planned for our evening.

CHAPTERFIFTEEN

Alessandro

I swear, I’m trying to focus on what Giulio’s saying, but it’s like I’ve got an electric storm buzzing in my chest. My heart’s doing a drum solo. There it is – the text. The buzz. My heartbeat quickens.

Here

One word, but it’s enough to set my world on fire. She’s close. I glance at my brother, muttering something about needing to take a call. He nods, a bit lost in his own world.

I grab my coat and the glass of whisky sitting on the table. Downing it in one go, the amber burn down my throat sending a shiver down my spine. I need a moment to get my shit together. My heart’s racing, my palms are sweaty, and I can’t believe she’s coming. The VIP lounge, she says. That’s where she wants to meet.

I slip away from Giulio’s chattering and head for the VIP lounge, feeling like I’m walking on clouds. My heart’s still hammering, and I’m trying to remember how to breathe. There’s a swarm of people around, but my eyes are locked on the entrance.

And then, there she is. I spot her the second she walks in, and it’s like the whole world slows down for a second. She’s a vision in that black dress, short enough to stop traffic. Her legs, man, they go on forever. She looks around the club, doing that little survey thing she always does, her eyes like a detective’s.

But then, our gazes meet, and she grins. I swear my heart skips a beat. Slowly, like a predator tracking its prey, she makes her way towards me. I watch every step, each sway of her hips, and it’s like time stands still.

“Hey, you,” she purrs when she’s close enough. Her voice, it’s like a warm breeze on a chilly night, and I’m trying not to sound too eager.

“Hey yourself,” I manage to reply, and I can’t help but smirk. “You look amazing.”

She blushes just a bit. “Thanks, I thought I’d make an effort for you.”

The corners of my lips curl up, and I offer her my arm. “Well, I appreciate the effort. Let’s go grab a drink.”

As we walk towards the bar, I can’t help but let my fingers graze against hers. The electricity between us is something else. There’s a spark, a chemistry that I’ve never felt before. We reach the bar, and I signal to the bartender.

“What can I get you?” he asks, but I’m not really paying attention to him. It’s her I’m interested in.

She leans in a little, her lips brushing against my ear. “Surprise me, Alessandro.”
