He scooted closer to me and put his hand on my shoulder, gently pushing me to my back. “Sawyer told me how to do this. He does it with Willa, and Father hasn’t noticed. I hope this works.” He pushed up to his hands and knees and crawled over me so he was hovering just above me. His eyes met mine. “I promise I won’t hurt you. Just stay still, okay?”

I swallowed and nodded. My heart hammered, and my mouth went dry as he lowered himself on top of me.

Lincoln pressed his mouth to my neck and his groin against mine. I whimpered at the feel of him right there. Heat flooded me. I shifted my legs and had to swallow back a moan when he rubbed against my clit.

Between his boxers and these sweats, there wasn’t much in between us. I could feel every magnificent inch of him, and Iwanted more. His length hardened and was pressing against my center.

I wiggled my hips.Oh, yes, right there!

Lincoln ran his fingers through my hair and nuzzled my neck. “Are you okay?” he whispered in my ear.

I drew in a shuddering breath as I wrapped my arms around his neck and smoothed my hands up and down his firm, soft skin. I wanted to feel every inch of him.

He pulled back, his pale-blue eyes staring down at me. “Sloane?”

I blinked and let my arms flop back down to the bed. What was happening to me? He was my mate. That’s what. When two wolves found each other, the urge to mate and complete the bond was undeniable.

It would only get worse with time if we denied it.

Lincoln backed off me and then got off the bed. I wrapped my arms around myself and sat up. Humiliation and anger coursed through me. How could I have let myself get so wrapped up in that?

He cleared his throat as he pulled on his pants. “I think we should be good now.”

I watched in fascination and horror as he zipped his throbbing length away. I should look anywhere but at him, but for the life of me, I couldn’t tear my gaze away.

Lincoln grabbed his shirt from the top of the dresser and threw it on. “I feel it too. We need to resist this, Sloane. If you get pregnant, you can’t shift, which makes you more vulnerable, and I don’t want to bring a baby into this pack. My father is a dangerous and deranged man.”

His words snapped me out of the moment. He was right. A baby would only further complicate things, and I was a prisoner here. I couldn’t forget that.

Lincoln might be my mate, but this place was dangerous, and I didn’t know if I could trust him. He might be my soulmate, but I didn’t know anything about him.

He came back to the bed and sat on the end by my feet. I pulled my legs up and hugged them to my chest, watching him.

He reached out like he was going to touch me, but let his hand fall to the bed. “I will do everything I can to protect you, Sloane. You have my word.”

I met his gaze and let my shoulders drop a little when I saw the raw sincerity in his face. “We might be able to fool your dad now, but he’ll expect me to get pregnant. I believe him when he says he’ll kill me. I have a sister at home. He threatened her if I don’t…”

Tears blurred my vision, and I looked away from him.

Lincoln scrubbed a hand over his face. “My dad is a man of his word, but I think I have a solution.” His gaze drifted past me and went to the old-school alarm clock on the nightstand. “We have to get to dinner. He doesn’t like it when people are late. I’ll explain everything afterward.”

He stood and offered me his hand.

I stared at it for a long moment before settling my hand in his. Tingles shot through me again, and his warmth surrounded me. I had no business feeling safe. I was in the wolf’s den, but with Lincoln, it wasn’t so bad.

Tread carefully, Sloane.

“Will Willa be at dinner too?” I asked.

It would be nice to see a familiar face. I hated that she was here, but at least now we would have each other.

“Yeah. She and Sawyer will be there.”

“And he isn’t…” I waved my hand.

Lincoln scowled and shook his head. “That girl is barely sixteen. Dad had no business putting her with him. Before we go, we need to talk about Sawyer.”

Sawyer. My dad had mentioned him. What had he said?
