I drew in a deep breath and inched closer to him, my gaze flicking to his lush lips that were all but begging me to kiss them.

He pulled his hand back and wiggled his fingers as he looked at them. “We need to fight this, Sloane. For Sawyer’s sake. My dad will know if he touches you. And if Sawyer senses we’ve been together…” He shook his head and looked away.

It would hurt him to not be with us, too. Despair filled me at the thought of only having half my soul with me. I wanted them both. At the same time. In my bed. Every night.

Sloane, get it together. This is life or death. Let’s figure that out first.

I clasped my hands together so they would hopefully behave. “We should avoid touching each other.”

That wasn’t going to be easy. My fingers were already itching to feel his calloused hands again.

“Exactly. We need to be careful.”

“How can I help?” I gazed at the computer as I nibbled on the inside of my cheek. I knew nothing about programming languages or any of the stuff he’d just shown me.

“Maybe you can help vet people. We’ve had a slew of new people lately. I want to make sure I don’t miss anything important. Dad has lots of enemies but also lots of people who would love to get on his good side.”

And what better way to get on his good side than to expose a plot to take him down?

“Show me what to do.”

“We’ll do that tomorrow and work on your fighting skills.”

I frowned. “My fighting skills?”

“I need to know that you can protect yourself too. We’ll spend the whole day in my room. We only need to leave for meals.” He scuffed his foot back and forth over the floor. “I hope you don’t mind. I don’t really like going out around the pack much.”

I wrapped my arms around myself again and looked at the floor. It was for my own good to stay in the room, but I was a social person. Not that I wanted to talk to anyone here, but there was Willa, and I’d like to get to know Sawyer more.

“Won’t people be suspicious if we stay in here all day?”

He shook his head. “No. I do that anyway most of the time. And we are supposed to be kept busy doing other things, too.”

Heat crept up my face at the reminder. I slowly slid my gaze over his masculine body.

Lincoln was exquisite. Everything I’d dreamed of in a mate. My heart ached knowing that it was sullied by his father.

I curled my hands into fists and pressed them into my lap.

Lincoln shut the laptop. “Are you sure you want to do this? If we’re caught and my dad finds out you were involved too…”

His eyes widened as he looked at me.

I gulped. I’d be dead and so would my pack. But if I didn’t do this, it would only be a matter of time before Alpha Dane decided to hurt them anyway.

“I’m in.”

Plotting to overthrow the alpha was dangerous. We could be killed just for thinking it, let alone discussing it, but it was the only choice we had.

Tomorrow we moved forward with our plan.

Luna help me.

Seven

Loud bangs drew mefrom my slumber. I rolled over and yawned as my eyes flitted open. I blinked and then blinked again as I took in the room and the silky black bedding. This wasn’t my bedroom. My comforter was jade.

Lincoln jumped up and tossed the blankets he’d slept on onto the bed.
