I pressed my lips together and stared at Willa. Her idea wasn’t completely unreasonable. “I’ve considered that it’s only a matter of time before Alpha Dane makes more demands on our home packs.”

Willa grasped both my hands. “All the more reason to leave. Run away while we still can.”

“But you can’t run forever. And if we all run, there will be no one to stand up to him. He’ll track us down, eventually.” No. The right thing was to make a stand now, before he got too strong.

“It will take him years to be able to do that. We could go to Canada or to the East Coast. Maybe even Europe.”

I squeezed her back. “Willa, that’s just a Band-Aid on the situation. He will come for you. Alpha Dane isn’t the type you can run from. He’s going to just keep coming.”

“Then what do you suggest we do?”

I opened my mouth. Maybe I should tell her about Lincoln and Sawyer’s plans. “Willa…”

My words died on my lips when the bedroom door creaked open.

Willa and I jumped apart with a gasp. My pulse roared in my ears, and my hand flew to my mouth.

I let out a long, slow breath, patting my chest when I saw it was just Sawyer.

He shut the door. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.”

I drew in a sharp inhale, trying to catch my breath. “It’s okay.”

I slid off the bed and crossed the room for the door.

Sawyer blocked my path, stepping in front of me. “Lincoln isn’t back in his room yet. Let me walk you back there and make sure you get in safely.”

I blinked at him and then nodded. “Okay.”

He looked at Willa, who was still sitting wide-eyed on the bed. Her face was pale, and she had tears brimming in her eyes.

I opened my mouth to tell her that we were okay, that even if Sawyer had somehow overheard anything, he was not going to hurt us.

I didn’t get the chance. Sawyer put his hand on my elbow.

“Come on. You shouldn’t be in here longer than need be now that I’m back.” He opened the door and guided me out into the hall.

We walked the short distance between the two bedrooms and stopped in front of Lincoln’s.

“Where is Lincoln?”

Sawyer’s jaw worked, and he looked away from me. “With Father still.”

My heart skipped a beat, and I wrapped my arms around myself.

He put his hand on my shoulder, and my pulse quickened as his warmth enveloped me. “It’s okay. They’re just talking business. Lincoln runs the website for our brewery.”

Right. He had mentioned that.

I let out a relieved breath and closed my eyes.

Sawyer squeezed my shoulder harder and leaned closer to me. “Lock the door once you go in, and don’t open it for anyone except me or Lincoln. Do you understand?”

I gulped and nodded.

“Good.” He reached around me and opened the door. “I won’t leave until I hear the lock click.”

I glanced up and down the hall and then looked at him as I dropped my voice to a whisper. “Hey, can you talk to Willa? She’s seriously freaking out. I’m afraid for her.”
