I darted my gaze away from Alpha Dane. The whole pack was back now. Blood soaked all of them. A few of the guys were high-fiving each other like they’d just won a football game. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard blood flooded my mouth.

What the hell was wrong with these people? They were all drinking Alpha Dane’s special brand of Kool-Aid like it was crack.

Alpha Dane focused his attention on Lincoln this time, glaring at him. “Where is the other girl?”

Lincoln lifted his head like he was meeting his father’s eyes head-on, but I could only see the back of his head.

I held my breath as he answered.

“She ran. The second she saw the Delidos, she split. Sloane and I tried to go after them, but we were outnumbered. They got the jump on Sloane and threatened to kill her if I didn’t let them go.”

Alpha Dane put his hand on Lincoln’s shoulder and stared at him for a long moment. His gaze slipped to me, scrutinizing me.

I stared straight ahead, focusing on a tree just over his shoulder. My heart pounded so hard I thought it was going to beat right out of my chest.

Alpha Dane let go of Lincoln. “You made the right call. Sloane is the better choice out of the two of them. That other girl is weak. A real whiner. Sawyer dodged a bullet with that one. I want the rest of them found. Kill them all, except for Willa. I want her brought home. We shall make an example of her.”

I gulped and held back a sob.

Please, Luna, keep Willa safe. And the rest of them, too.

Mikey came up and stood next to his father. “They had to have help. Someone tipped them off, Father. They were ready and waiting for us. Do you think Willa was helping them all along? She could have alerted them.” He sneered at me. “They were both at dinner last night and knew our plans.”

Alpha Dane rubbed his jaw. “Possibly. Sawyer, how would she have gotten a phone or communicated with them?”

Sawyer crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m not sure, Father. She has no phone or computer. She came to us the same way everyone does, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.”

Alpha Dane looked back at me. “We’ll figure it out when we find her.” He put one hand on Lincoln’s shoulder and the other on Sawyer’s. “I want the two of you to take Sloane home. The pack needs an alpha there, and I don’t want anyone else getting ideas and running off.”

Sawyer put his hand on the alpha’s elbow. “What will you do, Father?”

“Mikey will take three teams to hunt down our strays.” A grin spread over his face as he looked at me. “I plan to pay a trip to Pack Hampton. I am a man of my word. Ms. Hampton knew the rules. What happens to them is on her.”

I swallowed.Oh no.

Sawyer shook his head. “Should one of us go with you?”

Alpha Dane laughed. “No. I’ll be fine, son. I’ll be taking my usual enforcers. You take the girl home with Lincoln. I’ll rest easier knowing my second is with the pack in my absence. We don’t want our enemies to think we are all away, especially if the girl is a traitor. They could use this as an opportunity to strike. I won’t leave our pack vulnerable like that.”

Sawyer inclined his head. “We’ll leave immediately.”

Alpha Dane dug into his jeans pocket, pulled out a set of keys, and handed them to Sawyer. “Take my car. Text me when you get there.”

Lincoln didn’t waste any time. He turned on his heel and made a beeline for me. He grasped my upper arm and tugged me toward the car.

I tripped over my feet. My right foot slid out, making me crash into him. He let go of my arm and wrapped his arm around me instead, guiding me to the car.

The lights flashed, and the locks clicked as the car unlocked. I looked over my shoulder. Sawyer was right behind us.

Lincoln opened the passenger door, nudged me inside, and closed the door behind me once I was in. He took the seat right behind me, and Sawyer got in the driver’s seat.

I used my sleeve to try to mop some of the water from my face. It was no use. I was soaked through.

Sawyer turned the ignition over, and the car roared to life. He reached to the console and turned the heat on full blast, and then he pointed the vents toward me. “Let me know if you get too warm. We have a long drive home.”

The air coming out of the vents was cool but warmed quickly. I shivered and wrapped my arms around myself.

Lincoln leaned forward, grasping my headrest. “Sloane, are you okay?”
