Sawyer took Lincoln’s phone and set it on the dash. “Do you have your laptop with you? Can you do more to warn the Hamptons?”

Lincoln moved to the back seat. “No. I left it at home. Father would have questioned me about bringing it. We were supposed to go home today. And who would have thought Willa would do this?”

I fiddled with my thumbs and stared at my lap. “She was terrified.”

Lincoln snorted. “Yeah, well, if my dad catches her, she’s going to wish she’d stayed.”

I worried my bottom lip again, wincing when my teeth met raw skin. “Do you think he will kill her?”

“Yes!” both brothers answered at the same time.

I turned my gaze to the window as the water churned down the river. It raged like my thoughts did. “I hope she doesn’t stop running.”

Lincoln gripped my shoulder. “Me too.”

Sawyer put his hand back on my knee. “Don’t let our father know that you had any clue as to what she might be doing. If he thinks you knew what she was up to…”

He didn’t need to finish the sentence. It hung between us.

They needn’t worry. I wasn’t going to tell the alpha.

I drew in a deep breath and looked from Sawyer’s hand to Lincoln’s. Their warmth ebbed and flowed through me. My pulse rate slowed to near normal, and the tension dropped from my shoulders.

My eyes fluttered shut, and I leaned back against the headrest. What a day.

I must have dozed because Lincoln and Sawyer were both shaking me softly and calling my name. When I opened my eyes, we were in front of a hotel.

The sliding doors to the hotel lobby glided open and closed as a young couple came out holding hands and practically skipping through the rain to their car.

Sawyer patted my thigh and then opened the door. “I’ll get us some rooms.”

He got out of the car and shut the door, making the car rock back and forth. He jogged through the parking lot and under the awning.

Lincoln yanked on the seat, and then one of his legs came over the console. Before I could ask what he was doing, he was in the driver’s seat.

He turned toward me and reached out, grazing his thumb over my cheek. “Sloane, are you okay?”

His eyes held my gaze. His brows dipped into a frown, and the corners of his mouth pulled down.

I dipped my gaze to his lips. They were warm and soft. I shuddered, remembering how he had tasted just an hour or so ago. Like heaven.

I blinked, drew in a deep breath, and then let it out.

“Sloane?” he asked again.

I licked my lips. “What happened today was not okay, but we’re going to set things right.”

We would. Somehow.

Lincoln exhaled and pulled me into a hug. His fingers combed through my snarled locks, making me wince when he caught a tangled patch.

Alpha Dane would set his sights on Erica once she was of age. My fate would not be my sister’s. If I had my way, no otherwoman would suffer like this either. Luna help us all if Mikey or one of the other Neanderthals got their paws on a girl.

I gritted my teeth. It wasn’t going to happen.

A knock made us both jump. We pushed away from each other like two teens caught kissing by a parent.

Sawyer tapped the car as he came to my door and opened it.
