Page 5 of Wolf Arranged

His other hand gripped my chin between his thumb and forefinger and squeezed as he turned my head from side to side.

I gritted my teeth to keep from making a sound. Blood flooded my mouth. I’d ground my teeth so hard; I’d bit the inside of my cheek. My stomach churned, nausea rolling through my belly, as I had no choice but to swallow it.

Alpha Dane shoved me away. I stumbled and would have fallen if my father hadn’t caught me. My father’s arms encircled me like a warm embrace.

The alpha turned to his men. “She’ll do. Bring her.”

He sauntered to his car, a sleek black Aston Martin.

My dad made a noise in the back of his throat, something between a cry and a growl. He gripped me almost to the point of pain as the men descended on us.

Ricky stepped between us and the men. I’m not sure what he was going to do, but whatever it was, he never got the chance.

One of the enforcers shifted his hand into his wolf’s paw so fast I didn’t have time to blink. He brought it up and swiped it across Ricky’s face and neck.

Blood spurted out, drenching them in fresh blood.

I whimpered and cowered against my dad, who was dragging us both back to the car.

Alpha Dane chuckled as he clapped his hands. “Now, now, a deal is a deal, Alpha.” He put his hands on his hips as a low growl vibrated from his throat. “It’d be a shame if your daughter’s last memory of you was your blood being splattered across the pavement.”

Oh my god!

The air whooshed out of my lungs. They were going to kill him.

I turned to my dad. “Daddy, you have to let me go.” Tears swam in my eyes, making his face blurry. “Please, Daddy. I can’t…”

I couldn’t get any more words out as emotion clogged my throat.

“Sloane—”

The enforcers grabbed me under the armpits and tugged me out of his embrace. He reached for me, but one of them took a menacing step forward, and while he held his ground, he didn’t make another move.

My bottom lip trembled as the men tugged me faster than I could walk, making me stumble over my feet. I turned to my dad. He would do anything to protect his family, and I couldn’t let him die protecting me. It wouldn’t change my fate, but it could change the fate of the pack, and they were the reason I was doing this.

“It’s okay. I’ll be okay. Mom needs you.”

The two men dragging me picked up their pace. “Let’s go.”

We passed Ricky’s body, and my legs quit moving. He wasn’t dead. Yet.

Ricky writhed on the ground, gasping, both hands on his throat. Tears cascaded down my cheeks as our eyes met. One of his hands lifted like he was reaching for me.

I opened my hand to reach for him, wishing I could take his pain and ease his suffering.

The enforcer closest to him kicked him in the side. A horrific wheezing croak escaped Ricky.

Then there was silence. His eyes stared vacantly up at the sky, and his face was contorted in a permanent mask of pain.

I couldn’t take my gaze off him. My knees gave out. If the men weren’t holding me up, I would have fallen on my face. He was gone. Just like that.

The guy to my left swatted me on the back. “Move!”

I tripped and fumbled like a baby learning to walk. I snapped my attention in front of me. An enforcer was opening a car door.

One of the men shoved my head down as the other pushed me inside. The door slammed shut, nearly catching my foot.

Movement to my right caught my eye. I twisted and squeaked, backing up until the car door bit into my back. I was in the back seat with Alpha Dane.
