Page 7 of Wolf Arranged

“Good. Failure to comply will also lead to your demise.” A wicked grin slid over his features, and he rubbed his hands together like he was excited. “Those who disobey me get a slow, torturous death. I do so enjoy those, but it would be a shame to ruin such a pretty face.”

His words washed over me like an icy chill. I licked my lips and met his eyes.

“I will follow all your rules and not be any trouble.” My life, my family’s lives, and the pack depended on this arrangement working. I wouldn’t let them down.

“Fantastic. There is one more little thing. You and Lincoln will start breeding today before dinner.”

“Today?” The question popped out before I could stop myself.

It was late afternoon. I wouldn’t even get to have a conversation with the man before jumping into bed.

I wrapped my arms around my ribs like I could somehow protect myself.

Alpha Dane’s eyes flashed gold, and his brows dipped into a scowl. “Today!”

My stomach twisted, and I broke out in a cold sweat. I wanted to run away and hide. I had to give myself, my virginity, to a man I didn’t know. I knew it would happen eventually, but so fast? Today?

I’d always thought my first time would be with my soulmate.

I mashed my lips together. That was never going to happen.

Alpha Dane’s hand landed over the top of mine, squeezing. “Do we have a problem?”

I flinched and tried to withdraw my hand, but his grip was ironclad. It was starting to hurt. “No. No problem. Of course. That’s fine.”

He released my hand, and I turned to look out the window. We were pulling down a long gravel drive now. Trees lined both sides. Just like it did at home. Except this wasn’t home.

It was my own personal prison. Hell.

A large brick mansion came into view, but it was the fountains that caught my eye. There were several in front of wolves ready to pounce. Then in the center was a lone wolf, squashing an adversary to the ground and going in for the kill.

I shuddered and hugged myself tighter.

The car came to a stop in front of the door, and a man bounded down the steps and opened my door.

Alpha Dane leaned toward me to talk to the enforcer. “Patrick, take Sloane to Lincoln’s room.”

Patrick bowed his head. “Right away, Alpha.” He motioned for me to get out.

I scooted across the leather seat, the back of my shirt and pants damp from sweat. If this were any other circumstance, I would be mortified. I was sure I had wet spots. But considering I’d just spent a long drive in the back seat with a sociopath, I’d give myself a pass.

My legs were jelly as I stood. I had to grip the car door to keep from falling over.

Pull yourself together. You can do this.

My heart thundered, and the surrounding air buzzed. Light-headedness washed over me.

Oh god. Don’t pass out.

I blinked and sucked in a few deep breaths.

Patrick pushed on the door, making me stumble. “Come along, miss. He is waiting for you.”

I pushed off the door and said a silent prayer when I didn’t fall over. Patrick hurried up the steps in front of me and opened the front door.

One foot in front of the other.

My legs were leaden as I ascended the stairs and slipped inside the mansion. The inside of the house was immaculate but dark, with black marble floors and gray walls.
