We’d lost our follower. For now. If they were from Alpha Dane’s pack, it would only be a few minutes until they were back on us again.

Willa must have seen me looking in the mirror because she twisted and looked over her shoulder. “Is someone back there?”

She turned toward me, her eyes wide.

“There was. I shook them. For now.” We were on back country roads now. No one came this way unless they lived back here, and since my family owned most of the land…

It had to have been someone from Wolf Blood Pack.

How had they gotten so close to us? I’d sped the entire way here.

Willa put a hand over her heart and leaned her head back against the headrest. “It’s never going to end, is it?”

I glanced over at her and licked my lips. I didn’t like making a promise I wasn’t going to keep, but I was going to keep this one, no matter what. “It’s going to stop. We are going to stop him. Together.”

Willa’s bottom lip trembled, but then she smiled. “Yeah.”

Her eyes looked heavy, droopy. Her face was so pale, and now that I was really looking, I could see a fine sheen of sweat on her brow.

There was so much blood on her leg. She was in bad shape. I’d been so focused on getting us here, I hadn’t stopped to think about her injury.

I blew out a breath. We were almost there. My mom would know how to help.

Willa drew in a raspy breath. “Sloane.” She pointed to something in the distance.

I leaned forward over the steering wheel and squinted. There in the trees were a few wolves. They threw their heads back and howled.

A strangled sob broke from my throat. Tears pricked my eyes.

“It’s my brother and dad.” I covered my mouth and bit the inside of my cheek to keep from crying.

I was home.

More wolves appeared. The moment the car passed, half of them fell in line behind us, escorting us back to the main house. I’d bet money that the car behind us a few minutes ago had been scouts and not a tail from the Wolf Blood Pack. Thank goodness.

My eyes burned. A few stray tears slipped down my cheeks, and I swiped them away with the back of my hand.

Willa sat up and peered out the window. She turned to me and gave me a smile while she cried. “We made it.”

I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. “We’re going to be okay.”

The trees broke, and the house came into view. I swallowed and gripped the wheel tighter. Home. I didn’t think I’d ever see this place again.

I let out a long, slow breath. Safe.

The front door opened, and my mom came out and rushed down the stairs. Her hand went to her chest as she came to a stop at the bottom.

I pulled up in the turnaround and stopped a few feet from her. I shoved the gearshift into park, threw my door open, and ran into my mom’s arms.

She hugged me close. “Oh, my sweet girl. I should have never let you go.”

“Mom.” I breathed her in, letting her sweet lemongrass scent wash over me.

I couldn’t stop the gut-wrenching sob from ripping free from me. I let it all out.

The tears and the sobs came. I cried for Darrin. For Willa. The Hamptons and for Lincoln and Sawyer.

She smoothed her fingers through my hair. “I’ve got you. It’s going to be okay.”
