I looked at the floor, hating that everyone was staring as I made my descent from the stairs and into the room. My dad was at his desk, his arms resting on top of it and a piece of paper in his hands. He gave me a nod when he saw me and stood.

Lincoln’s laptop was next to him and turned on. It showed the login screen.

God, I wished he were here with me. He’d know how to explain everything so much better. I still couldn’t reach him. Hewas either unconscious or blocking me out. I prayed it was the former, because if he was blocking me out, then it was because he didn’t want me to know what his father was doing to him.

My dad cleared his throat and stood. “Sloane, come here. We are all eager to hear what you have to tell us.”

I moved across the room. There really were people everywhere. The couch and both armchairs were occupied, and alphas lined the wall where the bookcases were. I came around my dad’s desk and met his eyes before turning to face the crowd.

He put his hands on my shoulders and gave a gentle squeeze to encourage me.

Where did I start? There was so much to say.

Start at the beginning.

I tucked a lock of my still wet hair behind my ear and cleared my throat while I darted my gaze around the room. Some faces I knew, some I didn’t. Could they be trusted? I wasn’t sure, and I didn’t want to risk any more damage to Lincoln or put Sawyer in jeopardy, but I had to say something.

I remembered Lincoln’s words from the other day. It was best to keep it as close to the truth as possible. I could just leave out a few details to protect the men I loved and then tell my dad everything later.

I pursed my lips. “From the moment I got there, I was told that Lincoln was my intended mate.” I clasped my hands and looked at the floor. “I feared the worst, but Lincoln wasn’t anything like what I was expecting. He was different. Good. He wants to take down his dad as much as we do.”

I looked up and wrapped my arms around myself. Everyone was looking at me. Dad gave me a small smile and another nod.

I held his gaze as I continued to talk. “Lincoln was in charge of his dad’s financials and their business website. All that information is on the laptop.”

I pointed to it. Did I tell them about the network? No. What if one of them was working with Alpha Dane?

I couldn’t risk it. I also couldn’t tell them about Sawyer. He was already in enough danger, but his cover was intact. I wasn’t going to risk him.

“During my time there, Willa and I were forced to accompany Alpha Dane and his enforcers to the Delidos’. He uses wolfsbane to keep them from shifting. We should fully expect him to do the same to us when he comes, which will probably be sooner than later.”

I shuddered at the revelation. We might have made it here, but we were far from safe.

My dad patted my shoulder. “We’re ready for them. What else can you tell us?”

I told them everything I knew, only leaving out Sawyer’s involvement and the underground space Lincoln had built.

My hands were a sticky goo of sweat by the time I was done talking.

“What about the other girls?” A man pushed his way to the front.

I shook my head. “I don’t… What other girls?” I looked at my dad for guidance.

A deep frown marred his face.

“The only other girl I ever saw was Willa.” Wait! Lincoln had mentioned other women, but he hadn’t gone into details. In fact, I remembered him saying he hadn’t seen them either. “Lincoln only ever mentioned them once and that his dad was bringing them there. They must have been for the enforcers. I never saw them. I’m sorry.”

The man sputtered, his face contorting as it turned beet red. “They’ve taken so many girls from other packs. You saw no one else?”

My heart pattered against my ribs, and I wiped my sweaty hands on my pants. “I’m sorry. I didn’t.”

Most of the men talked over each other. Some of them spouted off names. I couldn’t make out anything, because they were all shouting at once.

Other girls? I hadn’t seen anyone else.

Oh no.

Had we left them behind? Those poor girls.
